Rocket Bar is the sire of
Rocket shows that she had six Thoroughbred foals with five starters, one stakes winner in Rocket Bar and one stakes placed runner in Spot Rocket by Spotted Bull who was third in the 1956 Raton Futurity. Spot Rocket set two New Track Records at Prescott Downs. The first was for 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:06.20 and the other was in 1:01.8 for 5 furlongs.
Morshion, the dam of Golden Rocket, won three stakes races including the Montauk Stakes at six furlongs. She is the dam of mares like Jeff’s Moment. Miss Jeff, a daughter of Jeff’s Moment, is the dam of Pataha Prince, winner of the 6 1/2 furlong Washington Futurity and the 6 furlong Bing Crosby Stakes in 1973.
Morvich, the sire of Morshion, was a Kentucky Derby winner with an unusual race record. This 1919 stallion won all of his starts at two, including nine stakes races in 11 starts. He was the 1921 Champion Two- Year-Old Colt. His stakes wins at two include the United States Hotel Stakes at 6 furlongs, Saratoga Special Futurity at 6 1/2 furlongs, Hopeful Stakes at 7 furlongs, Eastern Shore Handicap at 6 furlongs and Pimlico Futurity at 5 1/2 furlongs. He came back at three with his first start in the 1922 Kentucky Derby. He never won another race.
The sire of Morvich is Runnymede, who was bred by James R. Keene. Runnymede earned a third in the Great Eastern Railway Handicap, a six-furlong race at Newmarket. He has no race record in the United States.
Voter, the sire of Runnymede, was a stakes winner of races like the 6 furlong Toboggan Handicap in 1:12.25. He ran six furlongs in 1:10 flat at Morris Park in 1896. He set a New World Record for one mile at Brighton Beach in 1:38. He was the Champion Handicap horse in 1899. The runners sired by Voter include Hilarious, winner of the 6 furlong United States Hotel Stakes. He also sired Electioneer, winner of the 6 furlong Belmont Futurity.
The dam of Runnymede is Running Stream by Domino and out of Dancing Water by Isonomy. She won the 6 furlong July Cup in 1900. She is best known as the dam of Ultimus, the sire of Luke McLuke. She is also the dam of Pebbles, who was the Champion 2-Year-Old Colt in 1914. He won several stakes at two, including the 6 furlong Belmont Park Matron Stakes. He was second to Regret in the Saratoga Special and Hopeful Stakes in 1914 at shorter distances. He was second to Regret in the 1915 Kentucky Derby, the first filly to win this great race. Pebbles is by Ben Brush.
The appearance of Voter and Running Stream in the pedigree of Rocket Bar gives us a breeding pattern of 5x5 to Voter and a 5x5 breeding pattern to Running Stream. (Voter is the sire of Ballot and Runnymede, with Running Stream the dam of Ultimus and Runnymede) Running Stream gives us an example of “inbreeding to superior females.” Cushion, the dam of Morshion, was an unraced mare. Her winners include Downy Pillow, a stakes winner including the Churchill Down Debutante Stakes at 6 furlongs. Cushion is by Nonpareli by Yankee, who is by Hanover and out of Correction - full sister to Domino, thus giving the pedigree of Golden Rocket another link to the speed produced by Himyar and Mannie Gray, the sire and dam of Domino and Correction. Domino and Correction are both found in the pedigree of Depth Charge. The dam of Cushion is Hassock by Martinet and out of Agnes Brennan by Dr. McBride. Agnes Brennan is out of Annul by Himyar,
the sire of Domino and Correction. This gives Cushion a 4x4 breeding pattern to Himyar.
One thing we have learned from our review of the pedigree of Rocket Bar is that there
is speed throughout the pedigree. We have
also seen several examples of “inbreeding to superior females” in the pedigree of Rocket Bar.
