The All American Triple Crown has proven to be very elusive as only one horse has won this great title.
when Okey Dokey Fantasy and Saint Shackleton ran a dead heat in the Kansas Futurity. Then in 2017, Eagle Jazz and Uptown Dynasty were in a dead heat for the Ruidoso Futurity-G1 win. As the three races have grown, so has the difficulty of getting to the finals. Today each race has a trial and a final. So, each horse must run three extra races to complete the qualifying process
to run in all three finals. In the past it was even tougher as they would have an elimination trial and a time trial to get to the finals.
There have been 156 different horses win at least one of the races. This consists of 141 that have won only one of the races and they account for 90% of the wins. There have been 14 horses win two of the three races and that is 9% of the winners. There has been one that has won all three of the races and he is the other 1%.
When Tonto Parr won the 1964 Kansas Futurity, he set himself up to be the first horse to win the Triple Crown. He came back and ran in the Rainbow Futurity finishing third. He then started in the All American where he finished fourth. Ruby Charge won the 1965 Kansas Futurity, and she came back into the Rainbow to run sixth and she then ran sixth in the All American Futurity. In 1966 Roma Charge won the Kansas Futurity but would not be in the finals of either the Rainbow or
Kansas Futurity and the All American Futurity. Jet Smooth won the 1967 Kansas Futurity but didn’t run in the finals of either the Rainbow or All American Futurities. Turf ’s Best won
the Rainbow but finished fourth in the All American. Lady Bug’s Moon won the Kansas Futurity in 1968, but he finished second in
the Rainbow Futurity and the All American Futurity. Joada Bux won the 1968 Rainbow Futurity and finished fifth in the All American. The 1968 winner of the All American Futurity was Three Ohs, and he didn’t participate in the Kansas or Rainbow Futurities. So, from the beginning, the All American Triple Crown races were well attended by the early participants taking part in multiple races in the series.
When Easy Jet hit the track in 1969 as a
two year old, he set the world on fire. He ran 26 races with 22 wins and three seconds. He earned $409,157 for the year. He was the AQHA Racing World Champion. The one thing he didn’t do was win the All American Triple Crown at Ruidoso Downs despite the fact that he won nine stakes races that year. He won the Kansas Futurity and then finished out of the money in fifth place in the Rainbow Futurity. The Rainbow was the only time he finished out of the money in his two-year-old racing season. Then he won the All American Futurity. It has to be noted that he
the Rainbow. He actually sandwiched seven races between his Kansas Futurity win and his fifth
in the Rainbow. He had four wins, two seconds and the one fifth. He raced four times at La Mesa Park and three times at Ruidoso Downs during this set of races.
Easy Jet is the first of 14 horses to win two of the triple crown races forming a group of two time winners. He was followed in 1970
by Rocket Wrangler who won the Rainbow Futurity and the All American Futurity. Mr Kid Charge won two in 1971 again winning the Rainbow Futurity and the All American Futurity. Real Wind joined the two win club
in 1976 with wins in the Rainbow and All American Futurities. Ronas Ryon got his two wins when he won the Kansas Futurity and
the All American Futurity in 1986. Merganser won the Rainbow and the All American Futurities in 1988. A Delightful Dasher won the 1999 Rainbow and All American Futurities. Heartswideopen won the 2007 Ruidoso Futurity and the All American Futurity.
Stolis Winner and Whistle Stop Cafe are two time winners that will introduce us to something that is more common today with the large purses we are seeing awarded around the country. Stolis Winner won the 2008 million dollar Heritage Place Futurity and
All American Futurities. Top Lady Bug won finished second in both the Oklahoma Futurity then went to Ruidoso to win the Rainbow the Rainbow Futurity, but she was third in the and the Raton Futurity before he finished fifth in and the All American Futurities. Whistle
