then moved to Adams Diggings, New Mexico, and then to Colorado, where she graduated from Crowley High School in 1947. She taught for
a year in Dolores, Colorado, and got her B.A. degree in 1953 from the University of Colorado and moved to Santa Fe to teach first grade. She got her M.A. from UNM in the 1980’s.
She married Amado and lived in Santa Fe to raise her family. She was active in the Girl
Scouts, Santa Fe Junior Horse Show Association and supporting her children.
In 2000, they moved out near Ribera, New Mexico, where she loved telling stories to the children of the Valley School. She had a deep love for the children of the valley.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Peace Episcopal Lutheran Church in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, January
27, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Peace Episcopal Church in Las Vegas with Mother Madeline officiating. Serving as honorary bearers was Amado Chaves Summers, Jr., Ryan Chaves, Christopher Summers Price, Robin Price, Henry Flores and Tony Pickard.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fairview Cemetery at PO Box 5958, Santa Fe, New Mexico, 87502.
ATTENTION QUARTER HORSE BREEDERS!
Starting with the 2018 breeding season, the Breeder of a foal for registration with the New Mexico Horse Breeders Association will be defined as
the owner of the mare at the time
of the breeding which resulted in this foal. This is now consistent with the AQHA definition for the breeder.
