                FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
   Dear Members:
Please mark your calendars to attend the Zia Festival at Ruidoso Downs on July 31st & August 1st! It will be a great weekend to showcase our New Mexico Breds. We will start everything off with our Town Hall Meeting at the Horse Sale Pavilion at 10:00 a.m. This will be a good time to discuss important topics with our Trustees. That evening there will be a dinner in the Turf Club after the races with the award ceremony
for our 2020 Champions. An invitation with all the details will be sent out to our mem- bers along with nominators, qualifiers, and our legislators. We will also have a booth set up at the grandstand, so be sure to stop by to say hello. Good luck to all the participants in the Zia Festival Stakes!
We are very excited about the New Mexico State Fair Quarter Horse Futurity. This race will be estimated at $1 million starting in 2023. The Downs At Albuquerque and the New Mexico Horse Breeders’ Association plan to add $250,000 each for a total of $500,000 added! Be aware that the first payment will be due their weanling year on November 1. Both the 2022 and 2023 Nomination Blank that was just approved by the New Mexico Racing Commission is on one form so you will be nominating foals of 2020 for the 2022 Futu- rity and foals of 2021 for the 2023 Futurity on this same form. There are also two high dollar races for Thoroughbreds in the planning stages at Sunland Park.
The Board of Trustees voted to lower the late fee for our Export Broodmare program to $1,000 instead of $2,000 and there will
now be a ten-day grace period to get your forms into the office before a late fee will be charged. The due date is October 1 to submit the form to take your pregnant broodmare out of state to board and there is a $500 fee. After October 10, the fee is $1,000. Don’t forget! The broodmare must come back to New Mexico to foal and there is a Return Form that is required also. If you have any questions, please call our office. We will be happy to mail you the forms or you can find them on our website at www.nmhorsebreeders.com.
Welcome to our new Registrar Alicia Davenport! I think she will be a great addition to our team here at the breeders’ office and
I hope you all have a chance to meet her this Summer at some of our events.
Hope to see you at the races! Sincerely,
Mary M. Barber
