With nearly 1,200 horses sold in
three days, the crowning of the AQHA Racing Champions, a benefit Stallion Auction for Jacky Martin,
and OQHRA meetings and receptions, the Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale was full of activity from Jan. 19-21 in Oklahoma City. Annually a strong broodmare sale, the Winter Mixed Sale was topped by a $185,000 mare and highlighted by special La Feliz Montana Ranch Complete Dispersal and Bobby D. Cox Herd Reduction sessions.
First Fervor, a 2004 mare by First Down Dash out of Marcy Darling, was part of the
La Feliz Montana Ranch Complete Dispersal, with Lazy E Ranch LLC as agent. First Fervor is the dam of two stakes-placed winners—The Printing Press and Imdancinwiththestars. A graded stakes winner, First Fervor is a full sister to Champion First To Shine and a half-sister to stakes winner GW Chick.
First Fervor was the final horse in the 64-head dispersal of La Feliz Montana Ranch. She was purchased for $185,000 by Bobby
D. Cox, whose herd reduction session started with the very next horse through the ring. In all, six of the top 10 sellers came from the La Feliz Montana Complete Dispersal. Cox sold 67 head through his herd reduction, and was also one of the leading buyers, as he signed the ticket on three of the 10 highest sellers.
On Saturday morning, a total of $63,000 was raised during a benefit stallion auction for Jacky Martin. Martin and his wife Tracey visited Heritage Place that afternoon, where they were greeted with many smiles and warm wishes.
Last year’s average including repurchases was $11,279. This year’s average including repurchases is down at $8,993. This year’s gross revenue of $9,919,050 was also down from
the 2011 Winter Mixed Sale’s gross revenue of $10,940,420. Despite the declines, Heritage Place management were still optimistic.
“Overall we feel the 2012 Winter Mixed Sale was a success,” said Heritage Place General Manager Jeff Tebow. “The crowd remained strong all three days. Quality horses, with good pedigrees, sold extremely well.”
