CORONA B GONE
by John Moorehouse
Running in Oregon agrees with Corona B Gone. The gelding notched his second stakes win while running at the track on Dec. 16 in the
$17,000 Portland Meadows Bonus Challenge. Making a sharp break from the three-gate,
Corona B Gone was running in third at the first call. He moved into the lead by a head as he reached the stretch, and then dug in and held off Sneakin TR to cross the wire on top by a neck.
Ruben Magallanes owns Corona B Gone, who is trained by Hector Magellanes. Lorenzo Lopez was aboard for a 440-yard trip that was completed in :21.906 for a 103 speed index on a sloppy track.
A three-year-old gelding, Corona B Gone improved his overall record to 18-6(2)-1-5(3). He’s been busy as a sophomore, racking up 11 starts in 2018 with eight of those being in stakes company, including a win in the Aug. 26 Emerald Downs Championship Challenge.
Michael and Shannon McKay bred Corona B Gone out of six-time winner Go Girl Gone, winner of the 2006 Northwest Juvenile Challenge-G3 and 2008 Northwest Distaff Challenge. She also set two New Track Records at Sun Downs for 400 yards. Go Girl Gone has produced 100% winners from five starters, including Eagle B Gone, winner of the Pot O’Gold Futurity, Firecracker Futurity at Grants Pass Downs and Portland Meadows Fall Derby. Corona B Gone is the second stakes winner of the brood as well as the top money earner.
Sneakin TR (TR Dasher-Sneak Bac) finished second under Robert Burney for owner Connie Chumbley and trainer Scott Raley. Sneakin TR was coming off back-to-back victories, including the Oct. 7 Directors Handicap and an allowance both run at Portland Meadows. Gary Chumbley bred the seven-year-old gelding.
CM Once Ina Bluemoon (Ivory James-Cool Blue Corona) and Javier Matias were third for owners Randy Dickerson and Nick Lowe, who also trains the gelding. CM Once Ina Bluemmon was coming off a second place victory in the Dec. 3 Portland Meadows Fall Derby. Randy Dickerson also bred the three-year-old gelding.
For Sweet Jess (One Sweet Jess-For Some Cash) finished fourth and was followed by
Shez Sneakin Fast (Heza Fast Dash-Sneak Bac), Favorite Bling (Favorite Cartel-Spring Bling), Ag Favorite Cartel (Favorite Cartel-Naughty No More) and Preachin Lady Star (Preachinatthebar TB-Snowbound Star Lady).
Baxter Andruss Futurity
LOOSIN MY LOVER
by John Moorehouse
Loosin My Lover beat the odds in the $30,115 Baxter Andruss Futurity at Portland Meadows on Dec. 16.
The two-year-old gelding broke well from the three-gate, running with early leader and post-time favorite GC Harrys Game for most of the 400 yards. The two horses battled for the lead down the stretch and Loosin My Lover made it to the finish line first by a neck at the front of a blanket finish.
Juan Leon trains Loosin My Lover, who fin- ished the race in :20.402 for an 89 speed index over a sloppy track. Erick Garcia rode the underdog, who was running in his third stakes event of the year.
The $12,046 winner’s share of the Baxter Andruss purse boosted his total earnings to $16,427. The win marked the first ever for the gelding.
David McBride bred Loosin My Lover out of lightly raced Lover Cat, who is a full sister to the dam of AQRA Open Spring Futurity and Barbra B Handicap winner Phone Tag; California Breeders 550 Sophomore Stakes winner Hoose Coose; and Dig Deeper, who was second in the Mike Hastings Memorial Stakes and third in the AQRA Futurity. Lover Cat has produced 100% money earners from three starters, including top earner Lil Touch Of Dixie, who won the 2014 edition of the Baxter Andruss Futurity. Loosin My Lover is the second stakes winner of the brood.
His second dam is winner Halfpast Aheartbreak, a half-sister to Santa Cruz County Futurity-G3 winner Winning Endeavor. Halfpast Aheartbreak has produced 100% money earners from 12 starters.
Willy B Gone (Jess Louisiana Blue-Time T Splash Bac) rallied late to secure second for owner Chris Phillbrook. The Hector Magallanes trainee had Eduardo Gutierrez-Sosa aboard.
Fastest qualifier GC Harrys Game (Carters Cartel-EZ Gamer) settled for third under Robert Burney for owner Connie Chumbley and trainer and Scott Raley. Previously, the gelding had a three-race win streak which included a victory in the Far West Futurity at Portland Meadows.

Las Damas Handicap-G3
LOVE TO REASON BR
by Tracy Gantz
Brothers Jose and Eduardo Nicasio staged a furious battle in the $50,000 Las Damas Handicap-G3 at Los Alamitos on Nov. 24. Jose
rode Love To Reason BR and Eduardo rode Thermonuclear Energy. At the wire, Jose eked out a narrow victory.
Thermonuclear Energy was out to defend her title, having won the Las Damas in 2017, but Love To Reason BR got the jump on her out of the gate. Then Thermonuclear Energy wrested away the lead, only to have Love To Reason BR edge her by a head at the wire in :19.854 for a 90 speed index.
Monty Arrossa trains Love To Reason BR for owner Mario Hurtado. The 5-year-old mare won the Blane Schvaneveldt Handicap and Sun Downs Distaff Challenge earlier this year and her record stands at 18-5(3)-4-3(2) with $68,295 banked.
Benny Rosset bred Love To Reason BR out
of California Hi-Point Aged Mare Strength In Numbers, a 5-time stakes winner, including the 2008 Las Damas Handicap-G2. She has produced 100% money earners from 12 starters, including 2 addi- tional stakes winners and 3 stakes-placed runners.
Thermonuclear Energy (Walk Thru Fire- Terrific Energy) was second for owner Parsons Family Limited Partnership and trainer Christopher O’Dell.
