Trap Play Breaks Her Maiden in the $44,055 Speedhorse Paint and Appaloosa Championship Futurity (G1)
Trap Play, a two-year-old daughter of Docs Best Card (QH), got her first career win Nov. 13 in the Speedhorse Paint and Appaloosa Championship Futurity Stakes Race. She defeated My Name Is at 14-1 odds in the championship round held at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla. Trap Play had the lead from start to finish with My Name Is fol- lowing closely behind. Leading trainer Dee Keener saddled Trap Play for jockey Jesus Salazar and own- ers Lloyd Yother and J. Garvan Kelly of Bermuda Dunes, Calif. The $17,401 winner’s purse more than doubled the filly’s earnings to $25,071.

Two New Races Added to the 2022 Paint Racing Calendar
Paint racing fans asked for more opportuni- ties to race, and APHA delivered with two new events in the works next summer.

APHA year-end awards are coming up. Are you eligible? Remember that these prestigious titles are awarded to the owner or lessee of record as of December 31 of the racing year—if their APHA membership is current and the APHA Racing Participation Fee is paid.

Regional Paint Racing Awards—NEW!
APHA will present regional racing awards annually to horses/owners, breeders and trainers in five regions:
1. Northwest: Washington, Oregon, Idaho,
Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South
Dakota, Utah;
2. Eastern: Michigan, Kentucky, Florida; 3. Central: Oklahoma, Colorado;
4. Southwest: Texas, Arizona, New Mexico,
California;
5. Canada.
Awards will be determined as follows:
• Horse/owner: based on APHA Honor Roll
points per region (see Rule RA-060.D1); • Breeder and trainer: based on total money
earned in that region.
To be eligible and receive an award, you must be a current APHA member. Awards will be presented at the January Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale.
The APHA 79 & Under Speed Index Futurity, sponsored by Builders Unlimited, Inc., offers two-year-olds
a chance to race 330 yards for $10,000 added by APHA with an estimated purse of $25,000 at Fair Meadows in Tulsa, Okla. Nominate by May 20 for $500; then pay $250 at time of entry. Trials run on June 4, followed by the finals on June 18.
The Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Juvenile, a race for two-year-olds at 350 yards and a purse of $20,000, will be held on the same day as the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity finals
2nd Annual Platinum Performance Cowgirl Gathering Barrel Race Pays Out $120K
A total of 905 barrel racers and a payout
of $120,000 made the 2nd annual Platinum Performance Cowgirl Gathering Barrel Race the largest one-day barrel race in Texas. Top that off with the largest PBRIP Sidepot of the year with more than $5,000 in added money, and the Fort Worth Stockyards was the place to be Nov. 14.
Congratulations to Candie Wolf of Decator, Texas, for winning the 1D in PBRIP with her sorrel tobiano gelding Kitnic and walking away with $931.
Jaylan Clary of Weatherford, Texas, and her sorrel tobiano mare Dash Of Hope also hit the jackpot. Placing ninth in the Open 2D, second in the PBRIP and first in the Texas-Bred Incentive added up to nearly $4,000 in winnings. Like Jaylan Clary said, “It pays to own a Paint!”
