“Years ago I saw a picture of Reckless Dash in a magazine, and I thought, ‘That is the most beautiful stallion I have ever looked at,’ and I always kept telling myself through the years that I am going to get a good Quarter Horse mare and breed her to Reckless Dash.” - Roy Kent Perkins

finals. She came back with a third in the PSBA American Paint Classic Futurity-G1 finals. Her next start came in the Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity trials and, again, she won and then earned a
third in the finals. Her next start came on July 10 with a second in her trial for the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity
at Fair Meadows and, again, she finished second in the finals. RP Reckless Wire moved on to Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Oklahoma, where she won her trial for the Pot O Gold Futurity and crossed the wire in second place for the finals. Her next start came in the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Championship Futurity trials. She won her trial and was third in the finals for her last 2021 start. She made 11 starts with four wins, three seconds and four thirds, earning $99,681 for the year.
The story of RP Reckless Wire begins back on the farm. Roy Kent Perkins recalls
how he found his love of racing, “I was raised on a cotton farm, and we had horses. My dad would always bring an old bronc out and we would break it and ride it. I had a couple of buddies, and we would run down the cotton rows. They were 40 inches apart and it was like leaving the gate. Those stalks would be waist high and we would stay in the lane and two or three of us boys would race down through the rows. We would yell get ready and go. We would take off down through those rows. When we first started, we had little old Welsh ponies and then as we got older, we had bigger horses. I always liked to watch a horse run. I wasn’t so much into cow bred horses. I just liked that speed.”
Perkins continued about his interest in Paint racing. “My first racehorse came in 1987 when I bought a Paint horse and Gary Jacobs was the trainer. We ran that horse at Stroud, Oklahoma, and won the consolation of the Oklahoma Futurity and that was my first racehorse. His name was Be It and he was by Mr. Leggett’s horse old Walters Chick. That was my first taste of Paint racing.”
From this point on, Paint racing just got better. “Then we had a mare that won the Oklahoma Futurity. Her name was Go Easy Image by Indians Image. This filly was the 1989 APHA Champion Two-Year-Old Filly. We ran several of those Indian babies through the years and then I quit for 10 years. Just
got out and then I bought a Quarter Horse
mare, an own daughter of Hot Colours. So, I bred to Country Quick Dash. The first baby we ran out of her won the American Paint Classic Futurity. Her name was RP Miranda Dash. That really got me hooked again, and I have been rolling ever since, first with Durk Peery and now with Ray Enlow.”
The racing program today has evolved
into a racing partnership with Ray Enlow. Perkins explains, “I have six broodmares and Ray Enlow and I have four mares together. We don’t have a traditional partnership. We just go together and share what we win. We have had stud colts and geldings, but we haven’t sold any of the fillies. Mammy Jammer, Ring My Barb Wire and Bell N Wire were all bred by Ray Enlow, and we had a racing partnership on them. Ray is a partner on RP Reckless Wire. We are going to run babies out of those mares. We plan to have fun with them as long as these two old men can hold up.”
RP Reckless Wire is sired by CRM Livewire and out of RP Miss Reckess Dash by Reckless Dash. The dam of RP Miss Reckess Dash is Texas Teal by Merganser. The history of RP Miss Reckess Dash takes us on an interesting journey that brings us to the 2021 Speedhorse Paint and Appaloosa Triple Crown High Point Award. Perkins recalls how it all came down. “Years ago I saw a picture of Reckless Dash in a magazine, and I thought, ‘That is the most beautiful stallion I have ever looked at,’ and I always kept telling

“I just knew because of Jack Brooks with Merganser, and I liked that breeding. And anything Bobby Cox has something to do with as the broodmare man is good. I figured that she would be a good mare to invest in and I just loved Reckless Dash.” - Roy Kent Perkins
