Yulla Yulla Doubles Up At The Downs
Look and see what an amazing performer Yulla Yulla has been at the races this past year. The crowd at The Downs was mesmerized as the six-year-old bay mare who dramatically shook the audience at the 6 1⁄2 furlongs on April 8 at the Pinon Handicap worth $52,200.
The Look See mare out of Jesta Performer earned $31,320 for ecstatic owner Franklyn Macaron of Los Lunas, NM. Saddled by Johnie Jamison, Yulla Yulla again rose to the occasion as she broke third from the number 6 post and went right to the front hanging on to her lead by a head, then 1 1⁄2 lengths to a driving lead
by 4 3⁄4 lengths at the finish. Jockey Miguel Fuentes drew away under an easy hand ride and finished it in 1:15.9. He has ridden an incredible high just in the last nine months with all wins in every entry including the Viva
El Paso, Bold Ego Handicap, and NM Racing Commission, to name a few.
Well paced and coming in second was Gollygot saddled by Jon Arnett and ridden
by Robert Johnson. The dark bay mare by Whitebrush out of Natural Clue made a fair bid consistently throughout and grabbed the second place $10,440 prize for owner Dezmer Harris out of Flora Vista, NM. Able to pass Trip’s Eclipse was Tanka Gold, who surged on to earn $5,220 for third for owners Singletree Ranch, Martin Carraher, et al. Completing the field was Trip’s Eclipse, Me A Spirit Too and Caluna.
The curtains rose again on April 22 at
The Downs for the Silverado Handicap – also for New Mexico-bred three years old and up valued at $52,000. Yulla Yulla showed another command performance at The Downs at
Albuquerque and captured her 19th win out of 23 lifetime starts.
Yulla Yulla took home $31,200 to push her lifetime earnings to $366,112. Macaron’s mare broke out of the gates to lead the six-furlong race by 2 1⁄4 lengths by the final curtain in 1:08.88.
Wild Dan came in second to earn $10,400 for owners Bonnie and Clyde Lamar or Aransas, TX. The six-year-old chestnut gelding was sent to post by Simon Buechler and was ridden by Perry Whetstone.
In third was Runmore Mema by Jack Wilson out of Reckless Mema who earned $5,200 for owners Paul and Steve Prather of Eunice. The chestnut gelding was saddled by Fred Danley and ridden by Joe A. Martinez.
