HS GOLDEN EAGLE
HS Golden Eagle outran her 13-1 odds to score a wire-to-wire victory in the September 19, 400-yard New Mexico State Fair Futurity (RG3) for state-bred 2-year-old Quarter Horses.
Prepped by Javier Duarte for owner Lucinda Salas Lopez, HS Golden Eagle defeated 13-1 longshot Holland Rock by 1 3/4 lengths in :19.557. The sorrel daughter of Osbaldo posted a 95 speed index while banking the $197,854 winner’s share of the $395,708 purse.
HS Golden Eagle set the seventh-fastest qualifying time with her one-length win in one of seven New Mexico State Fair Futurity trials on August 27. The filly was bred by Hubaldo Solis of Peralta, New Mexico. Her sire, Osbaldo, is a 12-year-old gray son of the Mr Jess Perry stallion Jesse James Jr and a half- brother to stakes winner Blazin Version.
Campaigned exclusively in New Mexico from 2011-17, Osbaldo banked $456,878
from 43 starts, and his four graded stakes
wins included the 2011 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park. The stallion’s leading progeny include Blazinberryberryfast, the winner of last year’s New Mexico State Fair Juvenile Stakes (R) at Albuquerque Downs.
Osbaldo is owned by Hubaldo Solis, and he will stand the 2022 season for a $1,500
fee at Carlos Carrasco’s Rancho El Dorado at Anthony, New Mexico.
HS Golden Eagle is out of Catchtherain (TB), a winning New Mexico-bred 15-year-
old daughter of the Gone West stallion Super Special. Her third dam, the winning Florida- bred Valid Appeal mare Light Rain, ran third in the 1985 Meritus Stakes at Aqueduct and was a full sister to the stakes-placed Valid Coup.
HS Golden Eagle traces back to her fourth dam, Happy Cherokee, a Florida-bred winning and multiple stakes placed daughter of the Funny Fellow stallion Cherokee Fellow.
Raced in two states, including Arizona,
HS Golden Eagle has won two of seven outs
-- including both her races at the 400-yard dis- tance -- and she has earned $217,653. The filly’s spring resume includes a fourth-place finish, 1 1/4 lengths behind winner Dashin Approach, in the May 23, $113,000 New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity (RG3) at SunRay Park.
HS Golden Eagle returned a $28.40 win mutuel and paired with Holland Rock for a $227.20 ($2) exacta. Big Crush BB, a 15-1 longshot, ran third, two lengths behind HS Golden Eagle, to complete a ($1) trifecta dividend of $826.70.
The ninth-fastest qualifier, Holland Rock is a homebred son of the Mr Jess Perry stallion
Rock Solid Jess racing for Bob and Sissie McClure, and he was coming off of a second- place finish in his New Mexico State Fair Futurity trial. The bay gelding has banked $86,428 from five starts.
Big Crush BB set the fourth-fastest qualify- ing time with his neck victory in his New Mexico State Fair Futurity trial. A homebred gray son of Big Daddy Cartel racing for
Ralph W. Vincent and Beverly Bourguet of Albuquerque, the colt has earned $56,095 from six races, and his two wins include a
2 1/2-length victory in a 300-yard, $8,000 maiden-special-weight dash at Los Alamitos on June 4.
