Cesar Mendoza’s Sheza Dandy R F rallied to win the October 31, $100,000 New Mexico Cup Distaff Championship (R) for New Mexico-bred fillies and mares at Zia Park.
Sent to post at odds of 6-1 in the field of eight, Sheza Dandy R F closed on the fractions of :21.98 and :45.18 set by 3-2 favorite Tight Fittin Jeans, reached the wire in 1:10.70 while defeating runner-up Let It Roll by a half of a length. Casey Chavez rode the 5-year-old gray or roan Attila’s Storm mare for trainer Robert Rivera.
Sheza Dandy R F was coming off of a neck victory at odds of 26-1 in a 6-furlong, $46,000 allowance race for New Mexico-bred distaffers at Zia Park on October 11. The mare was bred by Rogers Farms, and she is one of 24 black-type stakes winners sired by Attila’s Storm.
A Grade 3-winning and Grade 1-placed Kentucky-bred son of Forest Wildcat, Attila’s Storm raced from 2004-07, winning five of 18 outs and banking $534,983. From 11 crops, the stallion has sired 183 winners from 239 starters and the earners of more than $14.6 million, including multiple stakes winners Waltzing Attila, Stormin The Jewels, Hush’s Storm, Thermal, and Go For
A Stroll. Attila’s Storm died after suffering a heart attack following colic surgery on June 23, 2021.
Sheza Dandy R F is one of two winners from
as many starters produced by Dandy Devona R
F, a homebred 11-year-old daughter of the Yankee Victor stallion Real Dandy who won the 2012 Dessie & Fern Sawyer Futurity (R) for New Mexico-bred 2-year-old fillies at Albuquerque Downs. Her third dam, the L’Natural mare L’Boz, won the 1992 Petticoat Stakes at Santa Fe Downs.
Sheza Dandy R F currently sports a three-race win streak that began with a 1 1/2-length victory in a 5-furlong sprint for $8,000 state-bred distaff claimers at Albuquerque Downs on September 10. Raced exclusively in New Mexico, the mare has won six of 29 starts, and the $60,000 winner’s share of the purse from her first career stakes victory pushed her bankroll to $139,950, of which $106,260 has been earned from six outs this year.
Sheza Dandy R F returned a $14 win mutuel and teamed with Let It Roll for a $2 exacta payoff of $81.60. Tight Fittin Jeans finished third, three- quarters of a length behind Sheza Dandy R F, to complete a $1 trifecta dividend of $103.60.
Sexy Bikini Model, Lemon Drop Gold,
Tutta Terlingua, Blue Blazes Who, and Shesapackinpunches completed the order of finish.
Let It Roll’s season resume includes a five- length victory on a muddy track in a 5 1/2-fur- long, $22,000 open-condition allowance sprint at Ruidoso Downs on the Fourth of July. A
5-year-old daughter of the Hennessy stallion Roll Hennessy Roll racing for B4 Farms LLC, the dark bay or brown mare has banked $277,208 from
30 races -- all in New Mexico -- and her five wins include a neck victory in the 2019 Carlos Salazar Stakes (R) at Albuquerque Downs.
Tight Fittin Jeans earned $10,000 to bring her bankroll to $150,026 for her owners, Greg Green, Delinda M. Green, and Corie O’Connor. A homebred 4-year-old daughter of the Indian Charlie stallion Shame On Charlie, the filly has won five of 12 races, and her record includes a wire-to-wire, 1 1/2-length victory in last year’s 5 1/2-furlong, $50,000 Sierra Starlet Handicap (R) at Ruidoso Downs.
