OF THE YEAR
Following is a list of broodmares for 2020 that have been nominated for the 10th Annual Speedhorse Broodmare of the
Year Award. Since its inception years ago, the original Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year Award was based on achievement and through their achievement we have hon- ored many of our industry’s great brood- mares. The naming of the 2020 Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year will follow that long standing tradition.
The 2020 Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year award is dedicated to highlighting the contribution of the mare to the racehorse industry by bringing together the top mares from four AQHA racing categories:
• Dams of 2020 Champions
• Top 5 Dams of 2020 Money Earners
• Top 5 Dams of 2020 Stakes Winners
(ranked first by number of Stakes Winners & second by Money Earned)
• Top 5 Dams of 2020 Stakes Wins (ranked first by number of Stakes Wins & second by Money Earned)
All of these mares are worthy candidates to be named the Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year. They were awarded points based on their placing in the respective catego- ries they qualified for: 5 points for number one in a category down to 1 point for fifth place. The dams of Champions are awarded 5 points for World Champion, 4 for overall divisional Champions and 3 for age divi- sion Champions. A horse receiving both
an overall divisional championship and an age division championship will receive the higher award of 4 points.
Only Quarter Horse foals are considered and listed for each mare. Under each mare’s name is a summary of her produce record. The statistics include: Starters, Winners, Stakes Winners, Number of Stakes Wins, Stakes
Placers, Money Earnings and 2020 Leading Money Earner with 2020 Earnings.
This is followed by the mare’s pedigree and a photo of her leading money earner of 2020. The categories by which the mare made the list of nominees is next, then her 2020 starters are named individually, fol- lowed by any remaining foals that did not race in 2020.
A big part of the Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year Award is to identify the top mares in each category and that is the purpose
of this summary. We hope that you enjoy reading about some of the industry’s best broodmares of 2020.
The owner of the Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year Award will receive an engraved trophy signifying their mare as the overall winner. We will be announcing the 2020 winner in our June Broodmare Issue. Research as of 3/4/21.
