After Empressum developed into such an outstanding horse for owners/breeders Steve Holt and Jeff Jones, Holt tried to be practical about future foals out of Empressum’s dam, Crazy Down Corona.
“I kept telling Jeff we wouldn’t ever have another one like that,” said Holt.
But two foals after Empressum, Hes Judgeandjury on Sept. 5 won the biggest of them all—the All American Futurity-G1. That prompted Jones to reply to Holt, “Keep saying that—it’s working.”
Not only has the 2008 mare Crazy Down Corona produced two outstanding racehorses in short order, they made headlines within days of each other.
Empressum put on such a show in the
Aug. 28 Go Man Go Handicap-G1 at Los Alamitos, winning by an astounding 2 1/2-lengths in quick time, that the superlatives began overflowing. Then eight days later, Hes Judgeandjury eclipsed his older half-brother
