APollitical Candy V had an outstanding 2022 season at Ruidoso Downs, culminat- ing in his victory in the Sept. 4 All American Derby-G1.
The Ruidoso meeting didn’t start in spectacular fashion for A Pollitical Candy V,
as he ran second in his trial for the Ruidoso Derby-G1 and didn’t qualify for the finals. But ever since, he has been perfect. He qualified to and won the Ruidoso Invitational Stakes by 1 3/4-lengths before adding his trial and the final of the $645,329 Rainbow Derby-G1.
Then came the All American Derby trials. As the 3-10 favorite, A Pollitical Candy V triumphed by an astounding 2 3/4-lengths and managed to post the fastest qualifying time with a clocking of :21.227.
Sammy Valeriano’s Valeriano Racing Stables owns A Pollitical Candy V, and Santos Carrizales Jr. took over the gelding’s training at Ruidoso Downs. Another change came with the addition of jockey Juan
