out,” said Bendi. “We all kind of took a deep breath for a second. But the she jumped up and took off.”
Political Rose surged forward under jockey Jesus Ayala, who has ridden her in all of her 2022 starts. At the wire she had a comfortable margin of 1 1/2 lengths, completing 440 yards in :21.108.
“Ayala rides her so well,” Bendi said. “He’s flown all over the country just for that one horse.” It has certainly been worth it. Political
Rose won three races at Remington Park this year, including the Heritage
Place Oaks.
“This filly has such a big heart and is so athletic,” said her trainer, Monty Arrossa. “She came back from the trials bouncing and responded well to light training. We knew she was absolutely ready when those gates opened to do something big today.”
Bendi had high praise for Arrossa and everyone in the barn. “He’s got a really phenomenal team,” she said. “Monty runs the day-to-day and calls the shots, but you always think about those grooms who are with those horses and their hands are on them 24 hours
a day. I think there’s so much credit to go toward those guys. We are just so appreciative.
We’re really lucky to have all these people backing us up and working so hard.”
At two last year, Political Rose won three races and finished second in the Heritage Place Futurity-G1 out of seven starts. After she finished third in her trial for the Texas Classic Futurity-G1, the Dunns took
her home.
“We sent her to Dr. Tommy Hays to check
her over,” said Bendi. “She did have a couple of small injuries. Dr. Hays took care of that, so we gave her some time off and rehabbed her at Outlaw Equine. She’s just been undefeated all year since then.”
