All American Gold Cup-G1
POWERFUL FAVORITE
by Tracy Gantz
Jockey Eduardo Nicasio knows Powerful Favorite well. He has ridden the six- year-old sorrel gelding in every one of
his 32 starts. While most of those races have occurred at Los Alamitos, they have successfully invaded Ruidoso Downs, most recently winning the Sept. 5 Grade 1 All American Gold Cup.
Powerful Favorite dominated from the start of the 440 yards.
He broke sharply from the 1-gate on the lead and led by 1 1/2 lengths early at the first call. Rivals cut into that margin a bit, but Powerful Favorite still won easily by three- quarters of a length in :20.936.
“I believe it was his best race,” stated Nicasio. “As he has grown older, he tends to break a little better like he did today. That impressed me and put a smile on my face. It was an easy trip.”
Christopher O’Dell trains Powerful Favorite for the Rosenthal Ranch LLC of Connie Rosenthal.
