Millionaire Powerful Favorite has won nine stakes, four of them Grade 1 events.
Powerful Favorite won the All American Gold Cup wire-to-wire, and he was coming off a wire-to-wire victory in the Mr Jet Moore Handicap-G2 at Ruidoso Downs on July 31.
Powerful Favorite has now earned $1,190,250 with the addition of this $68,293 winner’s share.
Connie Rosenthal purchased Powerful Favorite for $90,000 at the 2017 Los Alamitos Equine Sale for her husband, Bob. Sadly,
Bob died before ever getting to see Powerful Favorite race.
James Markum and Dr. Steve Burns bred Powerful Favorite in California from Remember Me Rose. Winner of four stakes, including the 2007 Ruidoso Derby-G1,
the mare has produced 21 winners from
28 starters. Three of those are also Grade
1 winners, three more have won ungraded stakes, and five are stakes-placed. Reminder, a 2-year-old full sister to Powerful Favorite, hasn’t yet won, but she is the mare’s sixth stakes-placed runner.
Apollitical Papa (Apollitical Jess-Sissys Tres Girl), bred by Bob McClure and owned by Bob and Sissie McClure, finished second. Noe Garcia Jr. rode the 5-year-old gelding for trainer Fred Danley. Apollitical Papa won the 2021 Zia Park Championship Stakes-G1 and James Isaac Hobbs Stakes-G2.
Apolliticalfastprize (Apollitical Jess-Ms Fast First Prize), owned by Ezra Elton Lee and bred by Lee, Giles, and Neugebauer, ran third for jockey Adrian Ramos and trainer Wesley Giles. The four-year-old gelding finished second in the 2022 Mr Jet Moore and 2021 All American Invitational.
Completing the field were Instygator (Ivory James-Eye Popping), Midday News (FDD Dynasty-Summer Love Song), This Famous Dream (One Famous Eagle-This Dreams Flying), and Gym N Jam (Jess Good Candy-None As Easy). Shott Gun was scratched.
