RACING NEWS
“What gave me the most joy was knowing that she is Dashnunder Afullmoon’s first foal and now her first futurity winner.”
Trained by Jesus Marquez, San Lorenzo Moon finished second in the Lassie Futurity-RG2 in May and then captured the Louisiana Juvenile Stakes at Delta Downs in July before finishing second in his Aug. 12 trial dash to the LQHBA Sale Futurity. The $236,439 winner’s share of the purse raised the precocious filly’s bankroll to $341,257.
Bred in Louisiana by her owner, San Lorenzo Moon is out of the Grade 1-winning Heza Fast Dash mare Dashnunder Afullmoon, who banked more than $700,000 in a stellar racing career. San Lorenzo Moon was a $60,000 buy-back at last year’s LQHBA Yearling Sale.
“We had a big number in mind, maybe unrealistic, but as she was
the first foal for Dashnunder Afullmoon, it would have taken a lot for us to let her go,” noted Marquez. “Plenty of people looked at this filly, but felt she was too small.”
Runner-up Cool Ya Jets (Jet Black Patriot-McM On Thin
Ice), piloted by Ubaldo Luna, just missed for owner Pete Scarmardo and trainer Kenneth Roberts Sr.,
who also sent out third-place finisher Everythingyouneed. A finalist in the Lassie Futurity-RG2 and second in the Louisiana Juvenile, Cool Ya Jets failed to meet her reserve in the ring at the LQHBA Yearling Sale and was bought back for $23,500. She
was bred in Louisiana by Bayou Stirling Equine LLC.
Everythingyouneed (Jet Black Patriot-Rogue to Riches) and jockey Ricky Ramirez finished third in the blanket finish
for owner Tony Sedillo and Absolute Refrigeration. Bred in Louisiana by Lester Colomb Jr., Everythingyouneed, an $18,500 graduate of the LQHBA Yearling Sale, was a finalist in the West Texas Futurity-G2 earlier in the season and is a 3-time winner from 7 career outings.
Onemorewildtrain (Freighttrain B-One More Card), Oh Hez Fast (Jet Black Patriot-PM Oh She Fast), Flyingontheground (Jet Black Patriot-La Dona Cartel), Pretty Piloto (Mr Piloto-Miss Beau Windy), Jess Sea Louisiana (The Louisiana Cartel-Jess Sea), and Ruse Splash Train (Freighttrain B-Perrys Splash N Dash) completed the order of finish.
David Alvarez returns to the winner’s circle aboard San Lorenzo Moon.
