Danjer was the 2021 World Champion and is a four-time AQHA Champion and 13-time stakes winner. He is trained by Dean Frey, and now boasts a record of 30-18-6-3. The $150,000 winner’s share of the purse improved his earnings total to $1,843,040 for his ownership group that includes Frey, Pat Guthrie’s Downtime Enterprises LLC, and Billy Smith.
Frey also bred Danjer in Oklahoma out of the Take Off Jess mare Shez Jess Toxic. During her racing career, Shez Jess Toxic, a California- bred who was a stakes winner and multiple Grade 1-placed, amassed earnings of $235,296 for Frey and trainer Monty Arrossa.
Runner-up Famous Chief (One Famous Eagle-Rockin Regent TB) rallied strongly in the lane under jockey Francisco Calderon to secure the place spot for owner Debbie Grimes and trainer Jason Driver. Famous Chief, a seven-time winner, owns a pair of stakes wins this season, taking the TQHA Classic Stakes-G2 and the Sam Houston Classic Stakes-G2. Famous Chief was a $35,000 graduate of the 2019 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.
Jessapolliticalgirl (Apolliticalgirl-Kirklyns Dynasty) and jockey Hector Aldrete finished with interest to secure the show spot for owner Sergio Castillo and trainer Jose DeHerrera. Jessapolliticalgirl was sold by her breeder Windy Acres Stables, who bred the 5-year-old
mare in Texas, for $54,000 in the 2018 Heritage Place Yearling Sale. The six-time winner has won twice in 2022, capturing a pair of allowance heats for her connections.
