Restrictions team includes owners Patricia Acosta and Patricia Gonzalez, and Juan Carlos Gonzalez is in charge of conditioning. The gelding was bred in California by Steve D. Burns out of the mare Little Talks. She is a ROM earner with almost $564,000 banked in her running days. She has produced 13 foals, and Restrictions is her best product.
“This horse was a $40,000 purchase out of the select sale at Ruidoso,” said trainer Juan Gonzalez “We didn’t want to pay quite that much for him, but we didn’t want to let him get away.
“He was easy to break and easy on the eyes, and he gallops like he likes his job,” Gonzalez continued. “He will take a good hold of the bit and it’s all good unless you don’t pay attention, meaning he is very powerful and he can get away if you’re not careful.
“He seems to be a happy soul and a sweetheart to be around on and off the track. Once we started to gate break him, we had to listen to what he told us. He said, I don’t like blinkers and I like a ring bit. He tends to drift out a bit during a race, but Carlos does a good job of keeping him straight.
“The feel good story about this horse is
my sister Patricia bought into him,” Gonzalez said. “It was her first race horse purchase and she was excited beyond words. She works
at a physical therapy clinic in El Paso and
she shut down the whole clinic and drove to Albuquerque to watch him. All the employees there were rooting for him. When he won, Patricia made it to the winners circle and she was crying and had make up and tears running
down her face. She was excited beyond belief. “This horse is super sound so we are going to let him rest just a few days and then maybe
go to Hobbs. We think he’s good enough to try for the derby money after he’s had a good rest.” Seventh fastest qualifier Babes (Foose-Babe
On The Fly) overcame a bumpy start with a gritty finish. She banked second place money for owner Vista Del Sol Inc. and trainer Marco Flores. Luis Flores-Garcia was in the irons.
Lake Havasu (Separate Interest-No Arizona) came into the finals after posting the eighth fastest
qualifying time. In the finals he broke like a champ and held on to finish third. He is owned/ trained by Osman Iturralde. Omar Iturralde was in the saddle.
The field finished like this Kj Wicked Wanda (Apollitical Spirit-Kj Hotflash). Dynasty Star V (Fdd Dynasty-Cluster Of Stars TB), Kvn Empress (Kvn Corona-Jesst A Dream), La Brujita Mayor (Ec Jet One-Symphonic), Chaposdashingbrother (Tee Cos-Dashing Lili) and One Last Ya (One Dashing Eagle-Ya Ya Sisterhood). Kissie, KJ Bootscootin Jess and Marshal Dillon scratched.
