Leader Of The Class Sale Futurity
OUR LOUISIANA GIRL
by Michael Compton
The odds were in trainer Randy Smith’s favor ahead of the $188,080 Leader of the Class Sale Futurity at Horseshoe Indianapolis on Sept. 14. Represented by five of the final’s eight starters, including odds-on race favorite Piloted By An Angel, Smith figured to have a strong say in the outcome. And he did, winning the 350-yard fixture with Our Louisiana Girl and sweeping the top four placings.
At odds of 5-1, Our Louisiana Girl and jockey Juan Pulido raced in 2nd position early, chasing favored Piloted By An Angel and jockey Juan Marquez. With a strong late rally, Our Louisiana Girl pushed by her rival late to score by a neck at the wire in :17.614. The final clocking earned
a speed index of 99. The $103,444 winner’s share of the purse increased the sorrel filly’s bankroll to $147,924.

Second-place finisher Piloted By An Angel (Paint My Pilot-La Blue Angel) nearly lasted and just missed to her stablemate. The filly, who was the second-fastest qualifier, is owned by SJC Inc. and Deborah Smith and was bred in Indiana by Dunn Ranch.
The Dirty Wagon (On the Wagon-Chics Dirty Secret) and jockey German Marquez
kept to task late and finished in third place for owners Keith Bode and Deborah Smith. Amy Youngblood Peoples bred the gelding in Indiana.
