ayne Knights’ Black Blood led at every call of the
$40,000 Mid-City Stakes-RG3 at Delta Downs on Sept. 3, to record his second stakes tally of the season for trainer Michael Zingelmann.
Ridden by Gilbert Ortiz, Black Blood flashed high speed away from the starting gate in the 400- yard event. He led by as much as a length in the lane and crossed the finish a 1/2-length better than race favorite Lifeinthefastlanes and jockey Everardo Rodriguez. Black Blood covered the distance in :19.812 over a muddy (sealed) track and earned a speed index of 91 in the winning effort.
Black Blood, 4th in last year’s Mid-City Stakes, improved his record to 18-9-1-3 with his latest score, and the $24,000 winner’s share of the purse lifted his bankroll to $191,088. Winner of the Develop A Plan Stakes-G3 at Delta Downs in July, the 4-year-old gelding also finished 3rd in the 2021 LQHBA Breeders’ Derby-G3 and Delta Downs Louisiana Bred Derby-G3.
Bred in Louisiana by Erin Crisman, Black Blood out of multiple graded stakes-winner Black Rosalita. He was sold for $19,000 at the 2019 LQHBA Yearling Sale. Six-time graded stakes winner Lifeinthefastlanes rallied strongly to secure 2nd for Paragon Farms LLC
& trainer Kenneth Roberts Sr. It was the 2nd straight year Lifeinthefastlanes , a $41,000 graduate of the 2018 LQHBA Yearling Sale, was 2nd in the Mid-City Stakes. Multiple graded stakes winner Hezaa Fast Boy & jockey David Alvarez dueled early and held 3rd for owner Rogelio Marquez Jr. & trainer Jesus Marquez. heza Fast Blood proved uncatchable in the
$40,000 Audubon Stakes at Delta Downs on Sept. 3, streaking to the lead after the break and rolling to the wire clear of her rivals to notch her first stakes win of the season.
Ridden by Gilbert Ortiz, Sheza Fast Blood dueled early with Apolliticalfastlanee and LRH Heart Of Glass. After shrugging off those rivals in the lane, Sheza Fast Blood surged clear late to score by 1/2-length at the finish, stopping the timer in a brisk :16.538 over the muddy (sealed) surface. The final clocking earned a speed index of 95.
Owned by Rayne Knight and trained by Michael Zingelmann, Sheza Fast Blood improved her record to 11-4-2-2 and the winner of last year’s Lassie Futurity increased her career earnings to $226,043. Bred in Louisiana by Nash Development, Sheza Fast Blood is produced from the Heza Fast Dash mare MCM Sheza Fast Cutie. Nash Development sold Sheza Fast Blood for $15,000 to Knight at the 2020 LQHBA Yearling Sale.
Post-time favorite LRH Heart Of Glass (Five Bar Cartel-LRH Heartofanoak), piloted by Arturo Alvarez, dueled throughout but could not go with the winner late. The sorrel filly, bred by Jetty and Donald Lemaire, is owned by Carlos Campos and is trained by Francisco Campos Jr. Jose Rodriguez guided Apolliticalfastlane (Apollitical Blood-Pantherinthefastlane) to a third- place finish for owners Jason Richards and Michael Leblanc and trainer Kenneth Roberts Sr. The brown filly was bred by Wade and Kay Loup. XDW Sheez Sweet (One Sweet Jess-Sheezespeciallyfast), Louisiana Tequila (The Louisiana Cartel-Newport Lily), Flying Adelia (Apollitical Blood-Flying Marguerita), Shesa Knockoutcartel (Five Bar Cartel-Lady Knockout),
JLA Indy Rogue (Heza Fast Rogue-French Indy), and Jess Dash Fast(Heza Fast Dash-Eyejesslovelouisiana) followed. Blessher Sweet Heart was scratched.

ing choices in the evenly matched LQHBA Sale Colts & Geldings Juvenile at Delta Downs on Sept. 3. Toast To Blue, PK Pure Rogue and Splishsplash Piloto (part of an entry with Toast To Blue) were all sent off at odds of 3-2, but at the wire, it was Toast To Blue who prevailed in the contentious 350-yard test.
Ridden by Ricky Ramirez, Toast To Blue raced in second position early, dueling with Big Daddys Blue Eyes. Toast To Blue took over the lead in the lane and surged clear late to score by 3/4-lengths at the wire, edging PK Pure Rogue in a final time of :17.553 over the muddy (sealed) track. The winner’s clocking earned a speed index of 91.
In notching the first stakes win of his career, the 2-year-old sorrel colt racked up career win number two for owner and trainer Martin Trejo, and the $18,000 winner’s share of the purse increased his bankroll to $42,333. Bred in Louisiana by Aymond Bates LLC and Henry Manuel, Toast To Blue was a $22,000 sale graduate of the LQHBA Yearling Sale. He is out of the mare Sante Mon Amie.
Runner-up PK Pure Rogue (Heza Fast Rogue- Kinky Boots), piloted by Guadalupe Lucio Jr., is owned by Jose Rodriguez and trained by Miguel Pizana. The gelding was bred in Louisiana by Phatt Kat Ranch and was a $9,200 acquisition at the 2021 LQHBA Yearling Sale. Splishsplash Piloto (Mr Piloto-Splishsplash) and jockey Everardo Rodriguez broke out at the start and rallied strongly late to finish third. Bred in Louisiana by Grant Farms, the gelding, a stablemate of the winner, broke his maiden on debut in May and is owned and trained by Trejo.
Big Daddys Blue Eyes (Inseperable-Lyza Blue), Bellas First Rogue (Heza Fast Rogue-Special Bellalisa), Giannirusso (Jet Black Patriot-Do It To It Jess), and JM Tee Cos Mon Coeur (Tee Cos-Packin Robi) completed the order of finish.
