Mark Your Calendars for the Second Annual APHA 79 & Under Speed Index Futurity
Sponsored by Builders Unlimited, Inc., this race offers 2-year-olds a chance to race 330 yards for $10,000 added by APHA with an estimated purse of $25,000 at Fair Meadows in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Dates for the trials and finals are to be determined.
The Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Juvenile
A race for 2-year-olds at 350 yards and a purse of $20,000, will take place on the same day as the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity finals in July at Fair Meadows in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Juvenile field will consist of the 11th- to 20th-place horses from the futurity trials.
New Race Added to the 2023 Paint Racing Calendar
Paint racing owners asked for more opportunities to race, and APHA delivered. The first annual APHA Dash For Colors Stake race will be running at Will Rogers Downs in 2023. This will give 3-year-olds a chance to run for a guaranteed purse of $15,000. Stay tuned for more information.
Running for a Year-End Award? Check Your Eligibility Today
APHA year-end awards are coming up. Are you eligible? Remember that these prestigious titles are awarded to the owner or lessee
of record as of December 31 of the racing year—so long as their APHA membership is current and the APHA Racing Participation Fee is paid.
This annual racing participation fee—$25 before March 1 and $100 after that date—is assessed to all recorded owners of APHA race starters. Owners of multiple horses only pay once if all the horses are owned under the same membership number. Non-payment doesn’t impact a horse’s race record as records are kept on all horses; however, a horse is only eligible for an award if the fee is paid.
Renew your membership online at apha. myshowday.com or visit apha.com/racing to pay the fee today.
Planning on Double-Registering Your Horse? Read This First!
If you plan to race, remember
that ALL double-registered horses must have the same name at APHA and AQHA. When registering your American Paint Horse—and if it will be registered with AQHA as well—make sure you select a name that is acceptable to both registries. Your horse WILL NOT be allowed to race AT ALL if the names are not the same.
Reminder: Registration Requirements for Stakes Races
Paint Horses must meet the following requirements to be eligible to enter stakes races, effective January 1, 2013:
1. Regular Registry Horses must have at least one APHA-registered parent in the first generation.
2. Solid Paint-Bred Horses must have two APHA Regular Registry parents in the first generation or at least one APHA Regular Registry parent in the first generation and at least one Regular Registry parent in the second generation.
3. Horses foaled prior to 2013 must have one APHA Regular Registry parent in the first generation.
