Everyone dreams about what it would be like to win the All American Futurity-G1. For John and Kathy Lee of Chandler, Arizona, KJ
Desparado’s victory in the Sept. 6 classic meant dreams coming true in so many ways.
The Lees finally won the All American after three other horses they owned in partnership qualified but lost. They won the race with a homebred who had weathered more than his share of bad racing luck in previous races. They shared the victory with their good friend Ruben Mares, who owns a percentage of all the horses they raise.
“It was like nothing that I could imagine, a really high high,” said John, who certainly remembers the lows. “When you lose the All American, the low stays with you for like two weeks.”
John will be able to savor this one for many years to come. His gelding not only won the All American Futurity-G1, he was able
