 Champion of Champions Classic
TIME FOR STREAKING

With the Champion of Champions Classic, Mexico ended its 2012 racing season for Quarter Horses. There was much anticipation from two weeks ago when the qualifying races were held, from which 10 finalists resulted for the Dec. 16 finals.
There seemed to be little doubt that Decati, the current king of 440 yards, would impose his strength and speed onto his nine companions. But there were two females that were competing: a grey 5-year old, Lyla G, and another 3-year old bay, Special Exterior. Also present was Feature Mr Cleat, who
on Nov. 3 defeated Decati at Race Track Rancho Santin, and his bay partner Time For Streaking, a son of Streakin La Jolla out of Time For Royal Cash.
When the gates opened, things began to take shape. A clean and timely start, good con- ditioning to make the distance, and experience on the course were factors that led Time For Streaking to glory. “Time” is stabled in racing block Cuadra Victoria M.C. In the stirrups was jockey Israel Dominguez, who had never landed in the winner’s circle. But he broke his maiden in a spectacular matter, leading the winner in the most prestigious race for 3-year- olds and older.
Time For Streaking simply destroyed the competition, as he beat Lyla G by three-quar- ters of a length, who beat Special Exterior once again by a length, who in turn defeated Decati by a head. Surprisingly as well, Time for Streaking defeated his arch-rival from Santin, Feature Mr Cleat (El Victoriano), making
this his first official loss in four starts at the Hipodromo de las Americas.
Before crossing the finish line, the veteran Risky Run dropped to the ground. The horse kept running with a fractured fetlock. And moments later his companion, Trickish Fire, ended the race with severe tendon injuries. It was a sad afternoon for Mr. Jose Antonio Juarez Aranda and his team with these two lows.
The winner, however, made his journey in :21.36, equivalent to a speed index of 101. It is his eighth victory in 31 starts, of which he also has nine seconds and three third-place finishes. He was bred in the United States by Abigail Kawananakoa and saddled by Simon Martin Hernandez. Of the total purse of 582,000 pesos ($44,769 U.S.), 323,700 pesos ($24,900 U.S.) was accredited as earnings to the bank account of Time For Streaking.
Challenge, was placed second. A daughter of Oak Tree Special out of My Corona Momma owned by the racing block Cuadra Bastida, she was ridden by Moises Molina and trained by Guillermo Hernandez Portillo.
Special Exterior
(Copacorona Special-Reckless
Kiddo) took third for racing
block Cuadra San Bruno
under the reins of Eddie
Cuellar and trained by Sergio
Flores Lopez. She is a winner of several classics in her first and second seasons on the track.
The remaining order of finish was Decati (Special Leader-Mia Ta Fame); Feature Mr Cleat (Feature Mr Jess- Cates Cleat); Jack Dupp (Feature Mr Jess-Timeless Favorite); Trickish Fire (Walk Thru Fire-Trickish); Zoomin For Fun (Shazoom-Trick And Fun TB); Siggles Smokin Gun (Count Corona-Barona Signature); and Risky Run (Mr Jess Perry-Careless Bunny), who fell to the dropped his jockey before
Lyla G, winner of the 2011 AQHA Maiden
Time For Streaking, under jockey Israel Dominguez, returns to the winner’s circle.
