  FORREST EFFORT
Making his first start against stakes company, Forrest Effort scored a wire-to-wire victory in the April 7, 400-yard New Mexico Breeders’ Stakes (RG3) for state-bred 3-year- old Quarter Horses at SunRay Park.
Forrest Effort defeated Jesses Wish by a neck in :19.785 while racing against a reported 10-mph head wind. Alfredo Sigala rode the sorrel son of TF Featured Effort for owners Emily Chavez and Nathalie Chavez, and trainer Omar Vargas.
Forrest Effort banked the $60,000 winner’s share of a $100,000 purse. He was shortening in distance off of his third-place finish in
a 440-yard, $41,100 non-winners-of-three allowance race for New Mexico-breds at Sunland Park on March 17. The gelding was bred by Carlos Paez and Israel Bordier. His sire, TF Featured Effort, is a multiple graded stakes winning 14-year-old son of the Mr Jess Perry stallion Feature Mr Jess.
Racing from 2011-15, TF Featured Effort earned $343,403 from 33 races, and his five graded wins included two consecutive runnings of the Grade 3 West Texas Maturity (2013- 14), and the 2012 West Texas Derby (G3).
The stallion has sired the earners of more than $1.5 million from five crops, including stakes winners Mr Tres Effort and Run Potion.
TF Featured Effort is a half-brother to 2001 Remington Park Futurity (G1) Le Magnifique FG. The stallion is owned by a partnership, and he stood the 2022 season for a $2,500 fee at The Quarter Company in Chamberino, New Mexico.
Forrest Effort’s dam, Runaway Leonarda, a homebred winning 10-year-old daughter of the Mr Jess Perry stallion Jesse James Jr. His second dam, Runawaywithitall, is a winning daughter of the Runaway Winner stallion Real Runaway.
Forrest Effort traces back to his fifth dam, Deck’em, a multiple stakes winning daughter of the Indian Hemp (TB) stallion Hempaces and runner-up in Maskeo Lad’s 1975 Los Alamitos Derby.
Campaigned exclusively in New Mexico, Forrest Effort has won three of seven races -- including two of three at the 400-yard distance -- and he has earned $113,649, of which $65,815 has been banked from three outs this season.
Mires A La Luna finished third, one length behind Forrest Effort, and was followed by Wahine, Stinky Feet, RC Heza Flashn Dream, Dash Flash, Fine Am Eye, Jess Trigger and Sol A Tare.
Jesses Wish pocketed the $20,000 runner-up share of the purse for his owners,
Javier M. Chavez and Heysol Howlet. A $50,000 yearling purchase at the 2021 New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs, the bay Jesse James Jr gelding has won two of 10 races -- including last year’s 300-yard, $313,030 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park -- and he has earned $178,822.
Mires A La Luna is a homebred son of 2009 AQHA champion aged stallion First Moonflash racing for Byron R. Woodard. A full brother to multiple graded stakes winner No Mires A La Luna, the brown gelding has won one of 10 starts, and the $10,000 third-place share of the New Mexico Breeders’ Stakes purse pushed his bankroll to $46,998.
