Pacific Coast QHRA Elects Board
The Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association (PCQHRA) recently elected five members to their 2012 board of directors. The new board members, who will each serve three- year terms, are John Bobenrieth, Steve Burns, DVM, Ron Hartley, Rhonda List and Christo- pher O’Dell.
Portland and SunRay Release Stakes Schedules
Portland Meadows, in Portland, Oregon, recently announced their 2012 Inaugural Summer and Fall Meet stakes schedule. The meets, which begin July 15 and run through December 8, include the $21,000-estimated Baxter Andruss Futurity for Quarter Horses. The Portland Summer Meet will feature racing conducted on a Wednesday, Friday and Sunday schedule in July, August and September. The Fall Meet will begin on Oct. 3, 2012 and racing

will shift to a Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday schedule until closing day on Saturday Dec. 8, 2012. There will also be a special day of live racing on Monday, Sept. 3. There will be no live racing at Portland Meadows on Aug. 8 and 10, or Sept. 7 and 9, to accommodate live racing at the Tillamook County Fair and Harney County Fair meets. SunRay Park, in Farmington, New Mexico, has released the stakes schedule for its 42-
day meet that begins on April 20. There are
11 stakes races on the schedule for Quarter Horses including the $150,000-estimated New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity-RG3. SunRay Park will race four days a week—Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Tuesdays—with special Mon-

Janet VanBebber To Close Public Stable
In a letter dated March 31, trainer Janet VanBebber announced plans to close her public training stable at the end of 2012, citing a desire to focus on her role as a parent.
“While training horses has always been im- portant to me, I have never lost sight of the fact that my most important role is that of ‘Moth- er,’” VanBebber wrote. “TaylorAnne is growing into a fabulous young woman, and I am very proud of her. However, her needs continue to be paramount to me...”
VanBebber will continue to breed and train a few personal horses in the future.

Larry Harding, 70,
passed away March
21 in Spokane,
Washington, follow-
ing a long battle with
cancer. Harding ex-
hibited a natural abil-
ity to ride horses as a
child, and that carried
over to his time in the
Army where he taught
companies of men to ride. Harding also jumped horses in the U.S. Pentathlon before becoming a jockey. He rode the winners of 300 races from New York to Canada to California. Among his top horses were Devil Who, Figurine, Diamond Sun Joe and Miss Top Time, as well as Appa- loosa Champions Time Flies and Scooter Bug G. Married to equine artist Ginny Harding in 1977, Harding retired from riding in 1986. He is survived by four sons—Shane, Cash, Jeremiah and Trapper—and numerous grandchildren, family members and friends.
Ed Kyler Passes Away
Edward W. Kyler, 64, passed away at his home in Cascade, Montana, on March 26 after suffering a heart attack. Kyler bred, owned and trained horses for many years in the U.S. and Canada. He and his wife, Mary, are 30-year cumulative breeders, and perhaps the best horses they bred were Grade 3 Canada Cup Futurity winner KR American Girl and All Canadian Fu- turity of Alberta winner KR Montana Cartel. A trainer since 1999, he conditioned the winners of 83 races and the earners of over $540,000. Kyler is survived by his wife, sons Ryan and Will, and numerous other family members and friends.

1 can chicken broth
1 package of ranch mix 1 package of taco
seasoning 1 large onion
Fresh garlic or garlic powder to taste

Directions:
Brown meat with onion and garlic. Add ranch and taco seasoning mix to meat. Mix meat and all can vegetables (do not drain) together in crockpot. Serve with cheese, sour cream, salsa, and tortilla chips.
