TQHA 550 Stakes
Mr TrULY UNo
by Stacy Pigott
Mr Truly Uno has only tried the 550-yard distance twice in his career, but the 5-year-old gelding has shown an affinity for
the longer races, winning both times. His first try at 550 yards was on March 10, when he won the SLM Big Daddy Stakes at Remington Park. His second attempt was on July 27, when he took the $35,000 TQHA 550 Stakes at Retama Park.
Prior to the TQHA
550 Stakes, Mr Truly Uno had been trained by Sleepy Gilbreath. Esteban Rubio took over the training duties for the TQHA 550 Stakes, giving a leg up to jockey Roy Baldillez. The pair loaded into post position nine,
and while Mr Truly Uno stumbled out of the gates, he quickly recovered to find his best stride. He was in front by a half-length at the first
call, and with Baldillez sitting chilly in the saddle, drew off to win by 1 1/2 lengths in :27.003, garnering a speed index of 112.
While Mr Truly Uno had a near perfect trip, the race was not without incident. Original fourth-place finisher His A Tycoon Cowboy was disqualified to fifth for lugging in and interfering with Eyeontheline.
Mr Truly Uno chalked up his fifth win in 14 starts in the TQHA 550 Stakes, earning $21,000 to
increase his career bankroll to a total of $165,976.
Sired by Feature Mr Jess, Mr Truly Uno is one of three stakes winners for his dam, Truley Yours. The mare has also produced All American Gold Cup winner Truley First Class and Oklahoma Futurity winner Six Feathers, as well
as stakes-placed Profit Taker, JTs So True and Feature For
You. Eleven of her 12 starters are winners. In second was Clem D. Nava III’s JC My
Diamond Man (Streakin La Jolla-Chicks A Diamond). Ricardo Aguirre rode for trainer Brian Stroud.
Corona La Jolla (Tinys First Corona- Mary La Jolla) was third for owner Donna Mushinski, trainer Kie Mushinski and jockey Cesar Zuniga.
Eyeontheline (Eye Yin You-Bobbie Lou-TB) was placed fourth and His A Tycoon Cowboy (Special Red Warrior-Streakin Splash) was placed fifth, followed by Shineys Magic T (Dreams Work-Oh My Shesa Dream), Streaky Baby (Streakin Sixes-This Babys Gone), CWS Barista (Streakin Sixes-Toffee Toro), Shake Em Special Pop (Royal Shake Em-Gotta Special Pop), and A Streakin Fool (Streakin Sixes-A Fool For Man).

Princess Stakes Derby
FAMoUS AUNT jeSSe
by Tracy Gantz
Famous Aunt Jesse has come into her own as a 3-year-old. The filly spent her 2-year-old season last year learning her job as a racehorse,
and now she has a three-race winning streak, punctuated by victory in the July 24 Princess Stakes Derby at Ajax Downs.
The addition of jockey Erika Smilovsky has helped as well. The two began their partnership in a June 12 allowance event at Ajax. They have not lost in three starts together,
including their Derby trial, in
which Famous Aunt Jesse was
the fastest qualifier.
In the Princess Stakes Derby, Smilovsky got Famous Aunt Jesse out of the gate quickly, and they immedi- ately jumped to the lead. No one could match strides with the filly, who won by 1 1/4 lengths in :18.140, Smilovsky hand riding her to the wire with no serious challengers.
Scott Reid trains Famous Aunt Jesse for owner John Wilson. The filly has spent her entire career at Ajax, breaking her maiden there in her final start at 2. Unplaced in two allowance races earlier this year, she now has a record of three wins in 10 starts for career earnings of $46,914.
MJ Farms, which stands sire Jesse James Jr. in New Mexico, bred Famous Aunt Jesse in
Ontario, Canada. The filly is out of the Dash Ta Fame mare Famous Aunt Martha, a winner, stakes finalist and earner of $24,327. Famous Aunt Jesse is the mare’s only starter, though she has 2010 and 2011 colts by Down Home Dash.
Hearts On Valkyrie (Desirio-Cold Hearted Calcar), owned by Sarah Wincikaby and bred
by Richard Wincikaby,
finished second. Brian Bell rode the filly for trainer Don Reid. Unraced at 2, Hearts On Valkyrie won in her first start and finished second in her Derby trial before this stakes- placed effort.
Marko Naterer’s Mygirlrox (Royal Shake Em-Girls Rock) ran third with Scott Sterr aboard. Greg Watson trains the filly, who defeated Hearts On Valkyrie in their trial.
Completing the field in the Princess Stakes Derby were Izzabellatheball (Tac It Like
A Man-Feet Thru First), BD Kiss My Bud (Strawflyin Buds-Sheza Biker Chick), Jesse James Alibi (Jesse James Jr-Icy Bridgette), Tsunami 09 (Wave Carver-Easy Launch), Eye Snow You (Eye Yin You-Snowing Halos), Okey Dokey Chik (Okey Dokey Dale-Taxing Queen Creek), and Corona Mon Coeur (Stoli-Corona Mon Amour).
