CLASSY CLASS TB
by John Moorehouse
Classy Class TB ran to a track record in the Turf Paradise 870 Championship, which was held Jan. 5 at the Arizona track for a mixed field of competitors.
A former winner of a Grade 3 stakes, Classy Class is a 10-year-old gelding who raced to his 18th career victory in 55 lifetime starts and his fourth triumph in five tries against a field that included Quarter Horses. Classy Class broke on top from the No. 2 hole and was running up close around the turn and then made a rail bid to capture the lead and promptly drew clear of the field. Classy Class led
by a full length going into the stretch, then pulled away during the final yards, sporting a separation of 3-lengths by the time he hit the finish line.
Justin Evans trains Classy Class and co-owns the Thoroughbred with Paul Miller. Isaias Enriquez was in the irons for the 870-yard run, completed in :44.011 for a 112 speed index. That time surpassed the prior track record of :44.404, which had stood since Dec. 30, 2011, and was set by All About Larry, a Quarter Horse.
Evans and Miller banked an $18,228 payday for this race, improving his earnings to $52,898 against Quarter Horses and his total earnings to $696,015.
Foaled in Kentucky, Classy Class was bred out of E. Paul Robsham Stable LLC. His dam, Collegiate, is a lightly-raced 2006 mare.
