All American Inv. S., 2nd Rainbow D.-G1.
Dulce Sin Tacha was already headed to a promising stud career at Lazy E Ranch in Guthrie, Oklahoma, before the 2021 Champions were announced. For him to add the 3-Year-Old Colt Champion title to his previous year’s Champion 2-Year-Old Colt title is icing on the cake.
Bob and Jerry Gaston of Seguin, Texas,
bred and raced Dulce Sin Tacha. At the awards ceremony, Bob paid tribute to the late Steve VanBebber and a dinner they had some 25 years ago at the Texas Classic Futurity-G1.
“What have I got to do to win that?” Bob recalled asking VanBebber, who responded, “Partner, you just stick with me.”
Jerry bred Miss Sin Tacha, the second dam of Dulce Sin Tacha, in partnership with trainer Janet VanBebber, Steve’s wife and today the chief racing officer of the AQHA. Janet owned and trained World Champion Streakin Sin Tacha, a half- brother to Miss Sin Tacha.
The Gastons raced Miss Sin Tacha to become graded stakes-placed and earn $196,578. Prissy Sin Tacha, the dam of Dulce Sin Tacha, finished third in the 2015 Texas Classic Futurity.
Dulce Sin Tacha did indeed win the Texas Classic Futurity-G1 for the Gastons as part of his 2020 Championship season. Trained by Heath Taylor, Dulce Sin Tacha put together another near-perfect season in 2021, completing his career having won eight of 11.
The colt won his trials for the Ruidoso Derby-G1 and Rainbow Derby-G1. He finished second to another 2021 Champion, Empressum, in the Rainbow Derby final.
A stumble at the start of his trial for the All American Derby-G1 kept Dulce Sin Tacha out
of that final. It is a testament to his class that he recovered well enough to finish second in the trial.
Instead, he competed in the All American Invitational as the 3-5 favorite. With regular jockey Rodrigo Vallejo in the irons, Dulce Sin Tacha capped off an excellent career with a 1/2-length victory.
“We’re proud of him,” said Bob Gaston. “We just thank God to create an animal like that who can run and give us all pleasure.”
