Whether you’re hiking, biking or out walking the dog, the Town of Castle Rock (Town) is known for its beautiful outdoor trails. Soon, the Town’s most popular trail will be extended.
The East Plum Creek Trail is the main trail that travels through town. It is not only the Town’s most widely used paved trail, it
is also part of a larger statewide trail system called the Colorado Front Range Trail. The Town is working to build the nal southern connection in Castle Rock. Castle Rock Mayor Jason Gray and others made remarks at a groundbreaking ceremony last month.
Currently, the East Plum Creek Trail travels six miles along scenic East Plum Creek from Castle View High School to South Perry Street. In addition to daily commuter and recreational activity, the trail network is actively used for several special events, including Bike to Work Day and the Castle Rock Half Marathon.
Completion of the entire East Plum Creek Trail corridor was included as a Town priority in the Council-approved 2015 Parks and Recreation Master Plan. A $1 million Great Outdoors Colorado
Grant will help o set some of the costs and save money for other trail projects in Town. The grant will require the Town to match funds of an additional $1 million to improve the trail.
Construction is scheduled to start before the end of the year and should be complete by fall 2019. To learn more about East Plum Creek Trail, visit CRgov.com/EPCTrailProject.
Mayor Jason Gray (pictured center) and Town Council ceremoniously shoveled the dirt, signifying the o cial groundbreaking of the East Plum Creek Trail extension project.
