ATLANTA MARKET, JANUARY 2020
Let’s talk about BUFFALO CHECK. We might all be tired of it but the consumer is still madly in love. With all the change and uncertainty in the world, consumers turn to what is comfortable, familiar and nostalgic. So, it’s not going anywhere. But how to make it different and what’s going to happen next are always the questions.
• Color Changes...... Blue, brown, red, orange, yellow, green, etc. etc. Also, combine two colors.
• Scale Change.....larger for a checkerboard, smaller for gingham; very large over scale for drama.
• Pattern Change....put it on a diagonal, give it a different, less stark look with a watercolor brush stroke,
add more lines and it becomes plaid but still reminiscent of buffalo check.
• Evolution....True plaids are more important than ever. Bold stripes.
• Combinations....Buffalo check and stripes. Add in florals.
