S2020 Broodmare of the Year INUOUS by John Moorehouse
The word sinuous has two definitions: a ser- pentine or wavy form; and marked by strong lithe movements. The 2007 mare Sinuous moved and waved to the top of the list and is the 2020 Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year.
Currently owned by Bobby D. Cox, who home-bred the mare, Sinuous (Mr Jess Perry- No Fees, Runaway Winner) finished first in three of the four categories used to determine Broodmare of the Year: money earned, stakes winners, and being a dam of Champions. She earned the nod in the latter category because she foaled Whistle Stop Cafe, who was named
2020 World Champion. Her brood combined to win a staggering $2,054,108 last year, with Whistle Stop Cafe hauling in the vast majority of that sum. Only the mares Eye Popping ($1,173,366) and In The Open ($1,020,249) joined Sinuous in the rare territory of seven figures in 2020 money earned.
Unlike last year’s competition for Broodmare of the Year, which came down to a tiebreaker, Sinuous won in a virtual runaway. She was the only broodmare to place in the top five in all four categories used to determine the honor. No other competitor placed in more than two of
the four categories. Three of the four mares that did crack the top five in multiple categories—A Perfect Cocktail, SRC Gold and Chicks Tell—were part of a four-way tie for second that included High Class Broad. Eye Popping, Answer The Dream (who was in the top five
in two categories), and Shez Jess Toxic tied for third place in the points standings.
SRC Gold, who also was named the top Oklahoma Broodmare by the OQHRA, only had one starter in 2020, but Apollitical Gold had a huge rookie year, reaping $972,659 single-handed, which ranked fourth among all
