Our roots are planted deeply in Mississippi and Louisiana. On both sides of our paternal and maternal heritage.
Mississippi, according to wikipedia is nicknamed “The Magnolia State” and “The Hospitality State”. For thousands of slaves, and our ancestors included would not consider Mississippi hospitable. In 1817 Mississippi was admitted into the Union as the 20th state. This state was occupied by the Choctaw, Natchez, Houma, Creek and Chickasaw people. It is believe that one of our very own ancestors was ei- ther from the Choctaw or Creek nation. I have yet to verify this information. I plan to continue my quest for answers until I can confirm it or not.
Mississippi had at least 49 Plantations and our
ancestors more than like worked on quite a few of them. For some 246 of years in slavery our people were sold off as property for $400 to $1650. Slav- ery lasted on paper from 1619 to 1865 in the United States. Since slavery end in 1865 which was a 153 years ago, we are only two to three generations re- moved from slavery. “However, former slave holding families have built their legacies on the institution and generated wealth that African-Americans have
not been privy to because enslaved labor was forced; segregation maintained wealth disparities; and overt and con- vert discrimination limited African-American recover efforts.” theconversation.com/slavery-in-america-back-in-the-headlines-33004. America’s wealth was built off the backs of our slaves. Unfortunately, some of those same slave owners are also our ancestors. Mississippi had some 436,631 slaves just before the Civil War, making Mississippi the 3rd highest slave population in the U.S.
On the map above our families came from Pike County, Wilkinson County andc Amite County. This is brief sum- mary of what I have discovered about the Booker, Robinson, Marshall and Parker family members. I have not yet to found a direct link to Snoop Dogg but we have some DNA cousins who claim him as their cousin. So I am assuming he is our cousin if they are definitely related to us.
