Renita (Cook) Gibson
Renita born in Chicago, Ill, the first of five children. So how do I go about describing myself. So here is a little bit about me, I can remember as far back as 3 years old. Being the oldest came with many responsibilities, I helped take care of my siblings during my childhood. When I was younger I loved
hanging out and playing with my siblings, cousins, and friends. We played games like, hide and seek,
jacks, truth or dare and tons of jump rope. My first job was baby-sitting my siblings, but my first paying
job was baby-sitting for our neighbors Mary and Johnnie Taylor on Nottingham. This job I held for over
4 years. How many of you knew I worked at Wendy’s? I worked there for 3 weeks, then went to work for
Kellermeyer a janitorial service at a building in Ann Arbor called MDSI (Manufacturing Data System
Incorporation) with mama. I am approaching 30 years at Ford Motor Co., before working for Ford, I
was a hairstylist, administrative assistant, worked at U of M and Farmer Jacks. I had so many jobs my re-
sume would be at least 3 pages long if someone want my job history. Well, I have many hobbies of which
I want to turn into a business now that I am about to retire. I believe that I am where I am solely to due
the grace of God. There were childhood struggles and adult struggles, often think back on those times
and thank God for helping me make it this far. I have experience numerous deaths of family members
but the death of my brother, friend and co-worker changed me. When Dennis went home to be with our
ancestors, I lost apart of me. I didn’t realize it right away but it hit me like a ton of bricks our first holiday
without him. Doing this book has been a real challenging, only because I am have been so easily detracted by memories of my past dealings with our ancestors and I was dreading the moment I had to do Dennis’ page. Prayer will get me through, I love to pray, read and write. God has given me many talents but what I treasure most is my husband and children. Milton and I got married in Toledo, OH, on October 18th 29 years ago, we have been together for 32 years. I love doing family history research along with graphic designing, woodworking, knitting, sewing and photography. There is nothing like family and I love you all.
