FEATURE – Additive Manufacturing
Industrial Applications
Titomic’s Titomic Kinetic FusionTM technology is slated for almost any industrial application where fast, efficient and quality additive manufacturing is needed.
Oil and Gas The Kinetic FusionTM process is ideally suited to the aggressive environment of the oil and gas industry. It can create seamless titanium pipes and pressure vessels while saving companies a considerable amount of money. With no constraint on size and shape, it can also develop load-bearing structures and speed up production.
Mining Titomic machines can be used as portable units for maintenance and equipment repair at harsh and remote environments. The units can also manufacture high-performance coatings to improve surface friction coefficient.
Defence Kinetic Fusion is ideally-suited to the defence industry. Industrial scale metal 3D printing machines can pump out large, load-bearing structures for air, ground and marine vessels. The technology can also facilitate the efficient application of ballistics protection materials.
Building and Construction The brand’s patented process opens up new avenues for civil and construction engineering by removing the shape and size constraints when producing titanium alloys.
Automotive Titomic technology will allow for the cost-effective manufacturing of titanium parts ranging from suspension components to wheels, as well as chassis and engines.
Aviation and Space A similar process to Titmoic Kinetic Fusion is used by the US military for Blackhawk helicopters’ maintenance and repair. By applying it in large-scale advanced manufacturing processes, only 10% of the material has to be machined away compared to the 90% required with conventional methods. This reduces production time considerably and improves profitability.
Consumer Goods When using the Kinetic FusionTM process for consumer goods, there are three measurable improvements:
• Strength: The final product at least 34+% stronger when compared to titanium of the same thickness.
• Speed: Titomic offers the fastest metal Additive Manufacturing process for titanium alloys. This allows for items, like bicycle frames, to be manufactured at four times the rate of a highly- qualified human titanium welder and finisher.
• Cost: There is no need for the use of expensive spherical powders used in conventional 3D printers. Titomic’s powder is 1/5 of 3D printer powder, as well as being 40% to 50% cheaper than roll-formed or extruded titanium tubing.
Titomic is one of the most exciting names in manufacturing innovation. Their quality is evidenced by MoUs with companies such as Australian defence company TAUV, global shipbuilders Fincantieri, and Calloway Golf Company.
