ing archery. After a few dinners, he married her before she could change her mind.
His first experience with competition BBQ was at Naples, Florida, at FBA's Big Swamp Cookoff. He was hooked and couldn’t get enough of this BBQ experience. He also was slowly being indoc- trinated into the BBQ Family that has hooked all of us. He always finds a way to give back at a contest. He has participated in 139 KCBS contests and 137 FBA contests; about half of those as a Table Captain. Sonny’s BBQ held an invitational competition, sanctioned by KCBS, and James organized the invited judges from all around the U.S. and several European countries. Sonny’s also wanted to host an in house competition, among their various restaurants, and James was right in the middle of organizing that for them. Alan and Linda Nichols, of Dogpatch Quilting, decided to make quilts, from BBQ T-Shirts, and the proceeds from the auctions would go to Operation BBQ Relief. James took charge of getting T-Shirts and contacted the BBQ Family. So far, he has raised several hundred shirts for this project. Despite this, His ex- perience is not only limited to judging. When the Oviedo, Florida Mall decided to hold a BBQ contest, James assumed the role of an Organizer and worked with Angela Iversen to hold an outstand- ing event, for four years. He has judged in 11 States and the Caribbean. Frazee had judging assignments in Maine and Nova Scotia, this Spring, but they had to be canceled due to the pandemic. He is always looking for ways to expand his BBQ hori- zons, search for ways to give back to the BBQ community and dis- cover new and different experiences. His wife joins him on all these trips, sharing his experiences. James and I recently judged one of the few contests that have come back, the Rufus Teague BBQ Throwdown, in Roebuck, South Carolina. A long trip for both of us, from Florida. It was great to be back with the BQ Family and judging some good Q for a change.
