from the conference. Not only from the registrations but largely from the auction which takes place following the awards. You, the NBBQA family, have been remarkable in helping the association financially over the past couple of years by attending some fundraisers we’ve had at various times. We are counting on you to continue at the conference.
During the auction, items of great value have been auctioned off. In the past, being on the cover of the National BBQ News, being a part of the Shed BBQ Team during Memphis in May, classes with Myron Mixon and cookers have all been items auctioned. This year the items will be just as grand and just as valuable, not just monetarily but personally. Make sure you bring your wallet because you are not going to want to miss out on this.
If you have ever attended a conference, then you know to be prepared for hug after hug just like attending a family reunion. However, a family re- union is perhaps the best way to describe what attending the conference is like. I remember being in line for lunch and a conversation was struck up with me by a couple I didn’t know but they talked to me like we have been friends forever. More than that, like family who haven’t seen each other in a while.
This is just a few reasons to attend the conference this year in Ft. Worth, April 3-5. We are looking forward to seeing you and meeting many new members of the family. After two years of not being together, there is only one thing to say, “We’re back, Baby!”

The Sponsors
The conference could not move forward without the aid of our sponsors. Those who believe in the mission of the NBBQA and want to be involved. In the past we have seen such sponsors as Old World Spices, B&B Charcoal, Cheerwine, Gunter Wilhelm, Compart Family Farms, FlameBoss and the list could go on. The point is this, we appreciate all our sponsors who make the conference the success it has been in the past and will be again this year as well. These sponsors have helped us provide some of the best speakers, meals and classes we could. It is because of them we have grown as an as- sociation and in our knowledge to aid us in becoming better pitmasters.
This year we are once again obtaining great sponsorship to provide for you the best conference we can plan. Perhaps you’ve received a phone call or email asking your company to help sponsor a session, a meal or something else. If so, come on board and have the time of your life. You can renew friendships, make new ones and network with some of the largest names in the world of outdoor cooking.
Perhaps you would also like to be a vendor. Setting up a booth at the con- ference will put you face to face with world champions, restaurateurs, and backyard cooks. This is where the connections can not only be made but solidified for continual relationships following the conference. The oppor- tunities are endless for you and your company. Answer the call and we’ll see you in Ft. Worth.
The NBBQA Family
This brings us to you, the NBBQA family. Without you there would be no National BBQ & Grilling Association. There would be no conference. There would be no wealth of knowledge and experience from which to draw in questions need answered. You, family, are why we all do what we do. The founders of the NBBQA saw the need to organize an association in which we all are equals and can learn from one another. BBQ has always been a family affair. The stories Myron Mixon tells about learning BBQ from his dad are legendary and many of you have similar stories. From competi- tions to restaurants, the word ‘family’ always makes its way into the con- versation and the NBBQA is no different.
