Benefits of Becoming a Member of the NBBQA
There are benefits all around us in the things we do. For instance, going for a walk around your block has benefits the doctors say. It keeps your joints moving, which helps you stay somewhat limber. Walking helps with cardio, giving you a stronger heart. Depending on how far and consistently you walk, you can lose weight. Those are just three of the benefits of a nice walk. There are plenty more. Pick anything and when you think about it, you will quickly see many benefits. The NBBQA isn’t any different when it comes to the benefits of being a member.
All you need to do is look around to see them. Your return on invest- ment should be paramount when you do anything, especially business related. I know we’ve not been to the theater in months, but do you re- member the amount of money you paid to purchase a ticket? Then your drink and snacks cost at least as much. Before you know it, you’ve laid down a small fortune on about 2 hours of entertainment. Now, re- member the last time you did this, then walked away thinking, “That is two-hours I’ll never get back.” You shell out the money and you almost want to call the producer to demand it back.
When it comes to your membership in the NBBQA, this is not the feeling with which you should have after joining. You should look for the bene- fits just as you would any investment you make, whether for entertain-
ment or business. Below, we will look at some of those benefits and how you can take an active role in obtaining these life-long benefits.
Involvement Benefits
Before any real benefits can take place, you must be involved. Sure, there will be some residual benefits you can pick up if you just hang around. But the more you are involved, the greater the benefits. We hear this all the time with other aspects of our lives. A few years back, in my county, a man was complaining about the schools and the school board. When one person challenged him by saying, “If you’re so con- cerned, why don’t you run for the school board?” Which he did and won a seat. In turn, he saw the behind the scenes it takes to run a school dis- trict this large. He realized, changes don’t just happen, they take time, especially when there are other opinions just as valid as his. He saw, with his involvement, a whole new side, which, in and of itself, is a ben- efit.
For our hero above, the more involved he became, the more benefits he received, and the school board was better off. He has now moved on to the county offices, which I’m sure more benefits will come his way. The more you get involved with the NBBQA, the more depth will result in the benefits you receive. You can be involved by submitting a news item for the newsletter. You can be a volunteer at the conference in
