  CBBQA PRESIDENT’S LETTER
Howdy BBQ Enthusiasts,
It is with a heavy heart that I, again, am writing to inform you that one of our esteemed members has passed, Rory Richmond. An excerpt of Rory’s obituary is below.
In 2016, the city of Clayton held its first KCBS-sanctioned event. Rather than pack teams into the back of the Clayton Club, Rory convinced the Clayton Business and Community Association to use the spots desig- nated for other major Clayton events, like the Art and Wine Festi- val.
“Rory Richmond was a true barbe- cue enthusiast and he made a per- manent, positive impact on the Northern California barbecue com- munity,” says Ian Schmidt, who is a Northern California KCBS Contest Representative along with KCBS Contest Rep Julie Poe. “But more than that, he formed bonds and friendships that went beyond barbe- cue.”
“The main thing is that Rory got back all he gave,” Becky Lane (Rory’s partner of 25 years) says. “He loved this community, loved its energy. And he was just a really good guy.” Rest easy, Rory, and thank you for
By Steph Franklin CBBQA President your contributions to California BBQ
and the CBBQA.
Who is looking forward to Throw- down in the Vineyard!? I certainly cannot wait to cook some meat at this scenic venue; I even heard there is a little fishing to be had. Looking forward to seeing folks there next month.
 Cheers, Steph
 Steph Franklin
