they know the importance of their role, and that is, being as fair and accurate with the score that they put on those judges slips or any helpful comments that they write on the comment card. It’s important to get this right. That category ends and we start setting up again for the next one.
Recently NEBS hosted a judges training for their organiza- tion. I spent time talking to new judges and asking them what drew them into wanting to become a judge? There were members of cook teams that wanted to understand the process better, there were family members of current judges that wanted to also participate; some just wanted to
become active judges or reinforce there judging knowl- edge. But overall, most were there for the chance to taste some great BBQ food.
I encourage you that if you have a chance to take a judg- ing class or attend a NEBS event, you won’t be sorry. You will get to meet some great people who share a common interest and lastly, you too will have the oppor- tunity to taste some great BBQ cooked by excellent teams in the chase of becoming that event’s Grand Champion.
