Despite being one of the newer BBQ pod- casts on the scene, The Pitmaster’s Pod- cast has wasted no time in making a name for itself. In the six short months between when the show launched in September 2019 and the NBBQA Conference in 2020, the show made an incredible impression on the industry, taking out third place in the Digital Media: Audio Series category. The success, no doubt, is due to the pas- sion and dedication of the
show's co-hosts Anthony Lujan and Rusty Monson.
With their podcast studio in
Sandy, Utah both Lujan and
Monson are winning pitmas-
ters in their own right. Lujan is
the head cook of competitive
BBQ team Smoke Ain’t No
Joke. The team has won two
Grand Champion prizes, one
Reserve Grand Champion prize
and numerous Top Ten calls in
all of the big four: Chicken,
Ribs, Pork and Brisket. And
Monson is no slouch either.
He’s the head cook of the Salt
City Barbecue competition
team. Even though they’ve
only been competing for a year, they have already taken out three Reserve Grand Champion prizes and they’ve had multiple Top Ten calls. They’ve taken this passion for and dedication to competition BBQ and focussed it on their podcast.
Indeed, their passion and dedication to competition BBQ has guided the very direction of their show. Their podcast focuses on competition BBQ and is committed to ensuring that their listeners finish each episode having learned as much as possible from the show’s incredibly experi- enced and successful guests. And what an impressive lineup of guests
they’ve had in such a short amount of time!
Guests to date have included Sterling Smith from Loot’n’Booty, the incredible Heath Riles, Chris Marks, Harry Soo, Diva Q and the one and only Malcolm Reed. However, it is their episode with Tuffy Stone (a favourite in Australia) that is Lujan’s personal favourite. In that episode,
Tuffy shares the stories of his start in the culinary industry, his introduction to BBQ, his restaurants, BBQ Pitmasters, and his induction into the Hall of Fame. Having interviewed Tuffy myself, it’s easy for me to see why this episode would be a favourite of even the hosts themselves.
So if competitive BBQ is your bag, then this is the podcast for you. Not only are the hosts tro- phy winning cooks themselves, but they only interview the best of the best and share that knowledge with you. The hosts have a free-flowing style and like to let the guest drive the
show. Their goal is to have fun and share their love of BBQ with everyone from the backyard cook to the pro competition teams. Oh, and they’ve been mentored by the OG of BBQ Podcasting - Greg Rempe.
You can catch The Pitmaster’s Pod- cast every week on all the major pod- casting platforms and you can find all the information about the show on their website, https://thepitmasterspodcast.com
And if video is your thing, you can watch the video versions of their pod- cast on Facebook and YouTube.
