 Zoom Meating
Barbecue competitions and events of all types came to a screeching halt in 2020.
In our September, 2020 issue we told you about a group of KCBS Judges in California that took the Covid-19 lemons and made some sweet lemonade.
They could no longer meet and gab in the tent or in a barbecue joint. To keep the tent conversations and camaraderie alive, Master CBJ Brian DeCoud organized a monthly Zoom ‘Meating’ with eating, re- viewing and talking about just one thing: barbecue. The calls included Judges from Southern California and quickly grew to Northern California, Nevada, Arizona, Vir- ginia and Tennessee, even the Northeast. This July marked the one-year anniversary of these fun and informative Zoom Meat- ings.
To add even more value, each call inter- views a Special Guest that talks about their specific interest in barbecue. Guests have included Presidents of barbecue as- sociations, Representatives, Organizers, Team Captains, Vendors and Sponsors. In fact, the Publisher of Barbecue News Mag- azine (Kell Phelps), will be the Special Guest in October. That will be followed in November by the second visit from the CEO of KCBS, Emily Detwiler. Interesting Special Guests from the barbecue world have already been targeted for Q1, 2022.
The Zoom calls take place the third Wednesday of each month, except Decem- ber, at 7:00pm Pacific, 10:00pm Eastern, and last one hour. If you are a ‘current- member Judge’ of KCBS and would like the Zoom link to join the calls, email Brian at: whybs_bbq@yahoo.com
I’m looking forward to being on the call, and I hope to see you too.
