Picking up our first hire car, we headed south on a four hour drive to the geothermal area of Rotorua.
As we passed Hamilton, I spotted Woodlands Historic House on the map. A half hour stopover gave us the chance to explore this charming homestead.
It was originally built as a Managers' residence between 1872 and 1875. The 15 acre gardens are particularly beautiful and contain many notable trees, like the Liriodendron, otherwise known as the Tulip tree where Alastair stands.
