   plan for drug shortages.
The IAFC also is pushing for the extension of federal tax benefits for local volunteers. Last year, Congress included legislation to exempt any state and local property tax benefits and up to $600 in other benefits for volunteer firefighters from federal taxation in 2020. During the COVID-19 pandemic, volunteer fire departments have not been able to fundraise or recruit volunteers. We are asking Congress to make this tax credit permanent to help create an incentive to retain volunteer firefighters.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to plague our nation, the IAFC is working hard to help fire and EMS departments to get the equipment and funding that they need to serve their communities. For up-to-date information and guidance on COVID-19 response, you can go to the IAFC’s coronavirus resource website: https://www.iafc.org/topics-and-tools/coronavirus-covid-19.
