 "This Too Shall Pass"
Something I think we have all been reminding ourselves over these past several months in the midst of the COVID pandemic, racial unrest, and overall uncertainty . It’s easy to get caught up in the negativity of it all, but that’s not who we are as physical therapists and physical therapist assistants . We are the ones who deliver hope to others .
We have plenty for which to have hope in our profession,
and many good things have happened with OPTA during this time . We had our elections and have new leaders in place to guide us through this unprecedented time. We have flexed our advocacy muscle in ways we have never done before and have been successful in having two important bills introduced – the PT Compact and Fair Co-Pay . In addition, we have advocated for the inclusion of PT in telehealth legislation and policies so we can continue to broaden our points of access for patients .
We hosted several legislators in virtual PACcy hours and discussed our issues with them . And that’s just part of what we’ve been doing . I am proud to see the positive impact our colleagues have had on patients with and without COVID .
Our students have shown incredible grace, patience, and resilience as they transitioned to online learning, changes in their curriculum, changes in their clinical education plans, and, for many, finally got the opportunity to complete clinical education experiences .
I am hopeful for an even brighter future as we continue
to navigate these current rough waters . Challenges bring opportunities . This challenge has highlighted our vital role in healthcare, in our patient’s recovery and in promoting wellness . I’m grateful to be part of the PT profession and appreciate all of you!
I’m looking forward to “seeing” you at LEAP and hopefully in person very soon!
