It’s Adam Rammel’s can-do philosophy, limitless energy, and inspired vision that’s propelled him to galvanize the restaurant scene in the small, west-central Ohio town of Bellefontaine. But there’s nothing “home-spun” about the innovative establishments Rammel and his team have brought to town, where they’ve served as catalysts to downtown Bellefontaine’s amazing revitalization.
Rammel admits he knew nothing about restaurant ownership back in 2015, when he and some friends bemoaned the fact that their town lacked a great craft beer emporium. So, they set out to fill the void, and Brewfontaine was born. Brewfontaine’s reputation, though, stretches far beyond the town limits, and it’s been honored as the number-one beer bar in Ohio four years in a row by craft-beer-dot-com.
As the restaurant’s popularity grew in the enlivened historic downtown, Rammel and his partners branched out. They developed a new concept called The Syndicate, originally designed as a special event center. But along came a pandemic that made the partners pivot their plans.
Rammel says it was a blessing in disguise. Today, The Syndicate is sought after as a fine-dining restaurant and outdoor entertainment destination, known for its dinners, weekend brunches and a full summer line-up of bands in their beer garden.
New ideas are always clicking with Rammel, who is now putting The Syndicate’s kitchen to use on the days of the week the restaurant is closed. He recently opened a “ghost kitchen” concept there, turning the idle kitchen into Captain Kraken’s Fish & Seafood, and dishing up seafood specials and lobster rolls for home delivery.
He’s got his eye on other opportunities, too, including resurrecting an event center in the former Elks Lodge that will begin renovations soon for a Spring 2022 opening.
Rammel grew up in tiny Coldwater, Ohio, and now makes Bellefontaine his home with wife Renee and children Reid and Addison.
