P. 2
Dear Buyer, Nineteen years ago my husband and I were looking for a house that we could rent in
Bent Tree. We had sold our home in East Cobb County and had plans to build our retirement home on the two lots we had purchased earlier. There were no homes to rent anywhere in Bent Tree. Our Realtor at the time, began showing us homes for sale. The last house he showed us was a newly built, not quite finished, Cape Cod style home. It had a great flat driveway and a level lot with lots of trees, but it needed landscaping in the front. I was sure it would be cut-up and have small rooms inside, but much to my surprise, the open floor plan and high ceilings greeted us as we walked in the the front door. We fell in love with the ledges throughout the house, the high ceilings and staircase. The ceiling to floor windows seemed to bring the outside in, making each room warm and inviting. The builder said he could have the house ready for us in two weeks. We bought it!
Over the years, the large back deck has become my “deerproof” garden. I love to sit out there in the morning with a cup of coffee, and soak it all in. I have always felt like I was high up in a tree house when I was on the back deck.
We were so blessed to have four children and nine grandchildren. The holidays are always special times here. The bedrooms and bonus room are always full; sometimes sleeping bags and air mattresses cover the floors too. The grandkids love getting together and recalling the fun they had spending a week each summer during Youth Week. am surprised that there aren’t cherry trees growing in the backyard. The grandchildren used to have a contest, spitting cherry pits over the deck railings. Now most of them are in their twenties, but the memories they have of this house and the fun they had here will forever be locked in their hearts.
I have had such fun decorating this home. The ledges and shelves have endless possibilities to decorate. The kitchen is a dream to work in. One of my favorite places in the house is the pantry! This is my first pantry I’ve had. The last six homes we owned were pantry free! The kids tell me that I could feed the whole family for a month with what is in there. They are probably right!
Over the last nineteen years here, we found what we were looking for. Bent Tree is a place where people really care about their neighbors. Our friends have been there for us during tough times and good times too. There is so much beauty here with the mountains, the sunsets, and the lake. Wildlife continues to thrill us all. I will miss it.
Now I am a widow and it is time to say good-bye to this wonderful home and start a new chapter in my life. I will be moving closer to my children and grandchildren, but I hope to visit all my friends here.
Wishing you well, Janet Kitchen
