 CHAPTER ONE: FRANCIS' MOTHER
When Ancestry.com first released it's DNA matching algorithm, ThruLines, I discovered that it could be a useful tool for experimentation.
With ThruLines on Ancestry.com, parental relationships usually need to be filled in if Ancestry’s computer algorithm is going to do its job of finding DNA matches. Sometimes, however, if the parents are not listed, ThruLines will come up with suggestions on its own for you to research. It will do this if many other trees on Ancestry.com are listing those people as the parents.
And most trees on Ancestry.com have listed Francis Bryan's parents incorrectly.
And so I experimented with adding names of possible parents, even when I knew that I had already disproven a relationship, or not found any solid documentary evidence of a relationship.
Many Ancestry.com trees name Joseph Josiah Bryan as the father of Francis Bryan. I had researched this possibility and had not found any documentary evidence of a relationship between a Joseph Josiah Bryan and my third great grandfather. There was excellent evidence of a relationship of a probable son, Guy Bryan, to Josiah Bryan. There was also evidence that Josiah was married to a woman named Sarah (last name unknown).
So I started my experiment by adding Joseph Josiah Bryan as Francis' father to see what ThruLines would make of this connection.
