study the municipal collection
bin allocation issue, as well as
the cost-effective transportation
route of municipal solid waste
for Agartala municipality as her
dissertation work. Between the
years 2014-2015, she collected
GPS data of all the collection bins
under Agartala municipality,
which were approximately 500
in number. She also collected
videos of collection vehicle
movement. An index known as
suitability index was developed
from this study, which could easily show the suitability of any place (in terms of latitude and longitude) for placing of collection bins aiding the municipal authority to judiciously allocate them. Upon completing her master’s, she
with her inner aspiration and dream to work in waste treatment and remediation of dumping yard got an opportunity to work in civil engineering department of IIT Roorkee. Here, she started working on waste treatment and segregation using black soldier fly larvae as biological agents. Black soldier fly (Hermetiaillucens) are flies belonging to the family Stratiomyidae. They have four stages in their life: adult, egg, larvae, pre-pupae and pupae. The larva of this fly is a voracious eater of organic waste. Black Soldier Fly (BSF) has the capability of transforming wide range of organic wastes into valuable products and also results in a huge reduction in volume of waste leading to lower land requirements
associated with waste disposal.
